HI Folks,My story seems simular.I just got out of the hospital 2 weeks ago, after a weeks stay, supposively with a bloodclot in left lung,I have a long history of DVT's so didn't question it.After another week had past and was still having pain, went back to the pulmonologist and another CT was ordered. I get called in to the pulmunologist for a lung capacty test and results of CT,this past Tues. after 30 years of smoking, stopped May 29,the day I went in the hospital ! Air capacity is good, BUT , the spot,10cm,is still there,I'm scheduled for a Pet scan 6/30,my BD,he said the spot is in the upper portion of my left lung and whatever those glands are beneath it are also slightly enlarged.Does anybody know what these glands are for? I'm pretty scared ! He said reguardless of the Pet scan this portion of my lung will have to be removed along with this gland.I go to a Thoracic doctor July 6th for a conciltation. He never said cancer until I asked him if he thought that's what it was and that was when he said yes. Did I say I was really scared ??I guess it's the not knowing.Does any one know if this type of surgery is followed up with chemo or radiation? Thanks for letting me talk,if any body has any advise let me know. Thanks,

I am just checking the forum tonight as I was away for a number of days.
If you want to know a lot, read the post right under yours something about nodules of indeterminate origin in a 0 yr old. Many persons responded to it, including myself. I am korusgirl.
Over the past 4 mos. I had many tests, and was pretty much diagnosed with cancer altho only by a pet scan which lit up a 2cm lesion in my upper left lobe. I subsequently had a brain mri, a bone scan and more cat scans, and it seems that I have lucked out as nothing else seems to be affected at this time.
I am scheduled for surgery July 7th.
I strongly suggest you request a Pet Scan before surgery. This test uses radioactive glucose, which tumors love, and after a night of fasting, and an injection of the glucosde, any cancerous stuff will gobble it right up and light up on the pet scan.
I am no expert here but I believe the "glands" are lymph glands which, can be enlarged from something else and may not be cancerous. Usually if they are under 2cm from what I read they may be ok. You need more info before you go under I think.
But, let me say that surgery is the only way to rid yourself of this ugly monster and if it has been suggested to you then that means you have a fighting chance.
Sorry no one else wrote back but write again ifyou have any questions.
