Hi there, new here, but finally decided to find a forum to allay or further my worries.

about 18-24 months ago a small skin coloured lump appeared on my buttocks grew to a certain size( about 1 cm then stopped growing.

It was only when I read about a type of melanoma called 'Nodular melanoma' that I started worrying.

I went to my local GP and he said it didnt look suspicious, but wanted to treat it as he felt it may be uncomfortable for me ( he thought it was a wart or something similar).

Anyway about a month later out of the blue the lump has become inflamed and hurts, like a boil, upon touching it and messing with it I appear to have now dark almost bruise like patches on it, as though its turned darker. Im wondering if this was due to touching/squeezing it though.

I have not yet had any bleeding or discharge from it, and am wondering if it is likely I would have had that within the 1st year of having it if it were nodular melanoma. It hadnt grown in size for about a year either but has in the last day due to becomming inflamed and painful.

What exactly does ulceration look like of these melanoma, would there definately be bleeding etc. Will try and post a picture soon.

Thanks.

Hi InconcievableDimensions,

I am sorry about your health concerns. Ulceration does mean bleeding or fluid would be coming out of that spot. It is good that it does not sound like it has ulcerated. Keep working with your medical team in order to figure out what that spot is.

It just randomly started to hurt like it was boil.... It feels like a boil but a boil doesnt stay as a pink lump for a year before starting to hurt.

I messed with it a bit and it turned brown/blue black as tho bruised or blood pooling under it.
How do I upload pics to this forum.

Ps Im a 23 yr old male.

Ok I wwent to my gp and he said it was infected so gave me some antibiotics.

The darkening was blood underneath where I had been emssing with it.

Question though if anyone knows.

Would a nodular melanoma bleed outside i.e over the skin and not underneath?

Also would I have noticed changes or bleeding in the year or so before when it didnt change?

-Thanks

I guess if your doc gave you antibiotics and told you it was infected, it's probably not a cancer.

Did your doc suggest it may be a cancer of any sort? IMO, if they were concerned about melanoma, you should have also been referred to a derm who deals with melanoma.

Your questions are probably best directed at your doc, or you might find the answers from googling nodular melanoma. The Mayo Clinic site is excellent for information and may even have some pics for you.

Just a quick tip, if you ever have skin lesions that you think might be a cancer, I wouldn't "mess with them" nor would I wait a year before getting them assessed.

Hope your antibiotics do the trick for you.
