My name is Dave. In 2005 I was diagnosed with invasive bladder cancer.
I was experiencing pain and went in for a cystoscopy. At that time the Dr. came out and told my wife I had cancer, but he would wait for the labs results to confirm. My wife didn't tell me, she didn't want me to worry until it was verified. It was about two weeks before they called me and told me over the phone that it came back positive. My regular Dr. is a good friend and got on things right away. He made some phone calls and got me in to Dr. Harry Herr at Sloan Kettering in NY. He verified the diagnosis and told me I would have to have a radical cystectomy I was schedule for surgery, thanksgiving week, 2005. My wife and I spent many nights in there, crying and feeling like our lives would never be the same. My wife had prepared herself for my eventual death and suffered greatly during that time.
The night before the surgery, I developed a fever which lasted through the night but had gone down in the morning. The surgeon came in and told me he would have to reschedule because he was worried about the fever and possible complications it might cause. At that point I was so happy, because I really felt in my heart that I was doing the wrong thing, I was happy to go home for a brief reprieve.
While I was at Sloan many of the nurses and one Dr. were questioning the need for me to have such radical surgery. That made me think a lot, so when I got out I decided to seek another opinion. I scheduled an appointment with Fox Chase Cancer in Philadelphia. The earliest I could get in was January. After I got out of Sloan, I began taking a product called Oncovite and massive amounts of green tea extract and drinking green tea until it came out of my ears. I really didn't expect miracles, but I thought all of the antioxidants might slow the progression a little. So I finally got to Fox Chase and saw Dr. David Chen. The staff and every one there I met with were great. It almost didn't feel like a hospital. Dr. Chen did biopsy's of the bladder and sent me home. After leaving Sloan, I never heard from them again (which made my wife angry!). Anyway, a week after Dr. Chens exam, He called me and said he had some good news for me. I was hoping he would say they might be able to save the bladder or try some other treatment. What he told me shocked me, He said I was completely clear of cancer. It was like I was not really understanding him, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. But it didn't. I went back a few weeks later and he did another set of biopsys's which also returned negative. I have been cancer free ever since.
I don't know what happened, neither do the Dr.s. Some say a misdiagnosis. I don't know, I really kind of doubt that. Two different Dr.s and hospitals came up with the same thing. Maybe it was all of the people praying for me, maybe it was the antioxidants, I couldn't tell you. The thing I would like people to take away from my story is to never give up. Where there is Life there is Hope. Always seek other opinions, Dr.s make mistakes and are only human. Find a place like Fox Chase for an opinion. Big hospitals tend to treat people like numbers. Dr.s have to remember that you are a human being and not just some kind of biological machine. Look at all your options, ask about alternatives. And if you don't like what you are being told, go ask someone else. It's funny,
people spend more time trying to find a good mechanic then they do a good Dr. or hospital. You have to be your own advocate. Don't listen to the gloom and doomers in your life. It's your life do what you want to do and make choices that are what you think is right. I hope my story helps someone. I know its a horrible thing to go through, but you can win, never give up.

In any case that a cancer reverses, doctors classify it as "Misdiagnosis".
The majority of bladder cancer cases are caused by smoking and by drinking low quantities of water. Green tea is proven by many Japanese studies (American universities ignore research in this field) to help to reverse cancer, along with a general healthy lifestyle. Continue your healthy lifestyle and you have nothing to lose. My best wishes.
