Hi Gloria,

Welcome to the forum, and I wish it was under better circumstances. It could be that your doctor plans to refer you to both an oncologist and a radiation oncologist. I wonder how did they find your cancer? The pathology report should reveal what kind of cancer, the stage of it and the grade. Be sure to bring in a note pad or something to write down the information they disclose to you. If they dont mention these things to you, ask them specifically for that information. Your oncologists will determine what they feel is the best course of treatment in consideration of those specifics. But be sure to ask what other options concerning treatment exist as well.

Please keep us informed and know you are in my thoughts and prayers. It is very scary, and one cannot help but think they are given a death sentence initially, but increasingly--that is NOT the case! Fight it with all you have and believe you will be survivor! My heart goes out to you, and know you are among people who care on this forum.

Rhonda

they discovered it through pathology report from the D&C. and only the grade is determined right now. was told the 'stage' can only be determined at the time of the hysterectomy. the oncologist plans to do a hysterectomy w/removal of lymph nodes. then radiation will be deteremined by the pathology of the lymph nodes. he was very brief and said there was no other choice but surgery. gave me no add'l info, other than that he could schedule surgery right away. Rolling Eyes He would know more after surgery.
Not what I expected.....but, then again, didn't know what to expect......... Shocked

Gloria, it sounds like you are in good hands. Cancer was found in me during a hysterectomy initially because of fibroids causing severe bleeding. When are you due for surgery? You will need time to recover from a hysterectomy, and best to prepare for it now. Make meals you can freeze to have after your surgery, and arrange for help to get in depth cleaning for at least at month. Some women do recover quicker then this, however, some slower. Dont lift up heavy things, or do vacuuming for a while.

Should your oncology team suggest radiation, be prepared for nausea for at least a couple of weeks. Eat very light. I could only eat a few things, applesauce really helped me through, and after I started taking ginger, my nausea left me. I had to drive myself to radiation with a less than cooperative car 120 miles round trip a day Rolling Eyes --try to find someone to drive you in case you are nauseated after radiation treatments should you go that route. I did not receive chemo, maybe someone will post their chemo experiences here on this thread.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I know how shocking it is, it takes time to even come to terms with being diagnosed with cancer. Fight it with all you got. I was numb for some months myself when first diagnosed, and even now at times it seems unreal.

It may be some time before you can post again after your surgery, but let us know here how you are doing, and what the surgery reveals.

Rhonda

Thanks so much Rhonda!

The meal thing is a great idea (hadn't even thought that far)!! I'm not much of an eater in general & lose weight at the drop of a hat. Never thought about cleaning & vaccuming either (I have 2 Persian cats and a dog who thinks it's his job to shed).

I was blindsided by this. I don't fit any of the criteria except that I never gave birth. I've never even had problems of that nature. Cancer doesn't run in the family & haven't even started menopause yet (mom didn't start until 56). My family is healthy; most live into the high 90's until they pass from general old age.

Glad to know these mood swings are normal. Not generally moody, but today - could spend the entire day in tears, throwing myself a pity party. Good thing I'm at work.

Haven't scheduled surgery yet. Getting 2nd opinion on pathology @ insistence of my brother.

Very Happy Your welcome, Gloria. It never hurts to get a second opinion. Bless your heart, it must be hard to be at work with this terrible cloud over you. And tears are to be expected; cancer wreaks havoc over people's lives--and their love ones. My mom knows a lady who by now must have lived 28 plus years--still living--after being diagnosed with uterine cancer. I tell you, I hate this disease so much--meeting people on this forum, and seeing how many lives it has devastated. And I hate what you are going through, and although everyone is different, hearing the words "you have cancer" is so terrible and almost indescribable. So don't be afraid to shed some tears. And reach out for support in your community. Get information from the American Cancer Society, another good group is cancercare.org., and of course The Cancer Forums, which rocks! Keep in touch now, Rhonda
