Started Gemzar today even though hemoglobin is back down to 8.4. Getting blood transfusion first thing in morning, then neupogin, 4 days of that. yuk! This Gemzar is hitting me earlier than the other chemos, either that or I am just more tired/nauseated than normal. We shall give it a few months, see if it shrinks this huge liver tumor. Don't think there are any other tricks up the oncs sleeves so this may be it. Gonna take it and run with it as far as I can!!! _________________ 47 YOA female. NSCLC IV Squamous cell. dx 7/07. Stopped Alimta and started Gemzar on 5/2. Stopped chemo went into HospiceJuly 24 2009, with prognosis of 3, maybe 4 months left. |

(((Hulamom)))
I'll be praying that Gemzar does something for this beastie.
I'm so sorry you have to do another line. Darn liver!!!! You are so brave and an inspiration to everyone. I recall that Gemzar hit my husband earlier than the other treatments on his second go-round with it, but you may be right that it is because of how many lines of treatment. Are you having fevers with it? This one caused a lot of fevers and huge night sweats for my husband.
As fast as the side-effects hit, they were also gone faster too. I'm sorry your counts are down -- that will add to the blah feeling. Infusions are such a long affair. <sigh>
Have they tried Navelbine as a single agent? It is very easy on the system and worked to buy my husband more time too.
Prayers and hugs being sent your way.

HulaMom; I cannot add anything other than to tell you that I think of you and have you in my prayers daily. You are strong but this beast of a disease is a tough fight.
You have a great frame of mind. May God watch over you and bring some comfort to you at this time. _________________ Mary

Tracy, gemcitabine always hit me quickly, too, giving me a headache even before the IV was finished. But it's overall side effects weren't too bad. Good luck, I hope it works well for you!

Uneasy, I'm glad it wasn't too rough on you and this isn't as bad as the carboplatin/taxotere route at the beginning. But I am really exhausted, even after getting 2 units of blood. Nausea is under control (barely). Could be worse and if it were better, I'd worry that it wasn't working. LOL _________________ 47 YOA female. NSCLC IV Squamous cell. dx 7/07. This chemo stuff gets crazy - now I am noticing slight pedal edema. My feet are a bit swollen so I will pop in on the doc today. Good grief! And yes those facebook games get to be time consuming! It's why I had to set a limit, hehehehe _________________ 47 YOA female. NSCLC IV Squamous cell. dx 7/07. Radiation, chemo (carboplatin/Taxotere). Cancer free 3/08! Cancer mets to liver 12/08. David,
Your mother was a very brave and courageous woman and I took interest in her own story. I know you are suffering now but at least your mom no longer is in pain or suffering anxiety (don't let anyone tell you that the patient doesn't feel some intense anxiety at times). I hope she went peacefully and quick. We will miss her here but I know we all will meet again. Thanks David for the notification, I've not been too active on here due to my own exhaustion and a grueling schedule of chemo/shots, etc. but I will tell you I looked out for her posts. She had spunk, or what I call pluck. You are in my thoughts and prayers during this hard time. And thanks again for the letter, it means a lot to me that you sent it.
