My father was diagnosed in February. Because of other conditions - he's 85, wheelchair bound, diabetes, heart problems, kidney problems, etc. he isn't a candidate for surgery or chemo. We've had 2 opinions including Sloan Kettering. He seems to be going pretty strong. Not a lot of pain although he's a WWII veteran and may be not admitting it. He takes one pain killer a day. The doctor at Sloan Kettering said that many people with his condition haven't lasted this long without treatment but he seems pretty good. They saw a spot on his lung too.

He's not eating well. That concerns me.

Any experiences you may have had with untreated PC might help.

Thanks

Yes- My aunt was diagnosed in October 2008. She is 83 years old and so far, has been doing alright.
This is my first post, so I'll give a little history:
She was diagnosed after a bout of jaundice and fever caused her hospitalization.
She had a stent put in to allow bile to flow, as the tumor was pressing on whatever normally allows this function.
She then had to have the first stent removed and a larger, permanent one put in because the first was blocked. Each time she was symptomatic with jaundice, lack of appetite, and high blood sugar.
She just takes creon for the digestive enzymes, and 1/2 a glipizide tablet
to keep her sugar level in check.
I cook twice a week for her and keep the fridge stocked. I try to keep the food up in calories and what appeals to her.
So far, I have been lucky that her condition has been very stable. I do believe that the older a person is, the more slowly their cancer grows, so perhaps your father will be lucky, if you can call it that.
Good luck with everything.

Thanks so much for your response. I'm going to write down the name of that enzyme and ask his doctor about it. I don't think he needs the other medication because he's an insulin dependent diabetic.
