Can anyone tell me if Humana views stem cell transplants for MM as covered or not? Any concerns with Humana overall? I know that all policies vary. I have a policy issued that is issued to high school teachers, so maybe it is kind of good? My policy only mentions stem cells when it talks about organ transplants. Is it an inpatient procedue?

Any help is deeply appreciated.

When you go into the treatement center for your pre-harvest/transplant testing (remember, you may not need a transplant! There are other options!) the institution will apply for insurance approval then. Any problems will show up because if the hospital doesn't think you will approved (meaning they may not get paid!) they won't start the transplant. That is how it worked for me at Mayo Clinic. I was forced to delay until I got things straightened out. In the meantime, I decided I would wait to have my transplant... That was two years ago and all has been ok ever since! Good luck- Pat
