Has anyone had this rare form of prostate ca?

My husband, current age 66 was taken to the hospital with severe back pain in Oct. 2007. He had mutiple spinal tumors suggestive of metastatic disease. It was discovered that he had prostate cancer even though his psa had always been normal, and no enlargment or urinary symptoms. No family hx. He was treated with androgen deprivation therapy but it soon became apparent that the cancer was refractory. BX on his prostate revealed a high grade poorly differentiated, aggresive cancer - rare so the Drs. say. Not long after he had local spread, spread to nodes and large involvement with bones, showing hot spots all over his skeletal system and large areas in shoulders and femer. In July of 2008, 10 mo. after initial dx. they found via MRI, that there was spread to liver and determinined it was neruoendocrine transformation making it like a primary liver cancer. They are treating it as a primary cancer even though it is not. He had cisplatin and etopside chemo - perhaps 12 rounds. When that did not work, and tumors continued to spread in liver, they gave him 3 treatments of taxotere. No benefit - it continued to thrive. He could not take radiation due to painful positions. He has lost about 30 lbs. in the last month, vomits daily, has difficulty with bowels. now has a super pubic tube for urine. His liver exzymes are only slightly elevated and kidney bloodwork OK. He sleeps a lot, requires pain meds, has no appetite and vomits what he does eat. He sleeps erratically and flips and has involunary gestures during the night. A new Dr. at Dana Farber agreed to give him three treatments of topokeco to help reduce tumor size to elimatinate partial bowel obstuction. Anyone have this experience and if so- thoughts on prognosis? I am so upset. I wish they had removed the prostate from the beginning so it would not be so big and make this particle bowel obstruction get worse. It is creating so much pain. He can hardly walk any distance due to size of tumor. It hurts in his lower abdomen. Any thoughts? Shall I prepare that he is dying now?

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. My very best wishes to the two of you. With it being a holiday weekend, there might not be as many people around to answer your questions. Hopefully your post will be responded to soon, by people that know about this type of cancer.
