I'm a 17 year old guy.
I've had severe back and neck ache and headaches since I was about 11/12.
I've gone to physiotherapists and chiropracters to no avail.
I rely on pain killers to get me through the pain but sometimes I don't take them (I am not addicted to pain killers).
I have done everything that physio's and chiropracters have told me to do.
I got a new bed.
I sleep with one pillow.
I keep correct posture at most times.
I lift things correctly.
I don't carry around a heavy bag at school.
I wear my reading glasses every single time I read something.
This is a description of the pain I feel:
It starts from up upper back and it's like a pushing down/stabbing feeling. It spreads up to my neck and hurts a lot more on either side of my neck (Apparently by the facet joints that are, according to a chiropractor, jammed and nothing can be done about jammed facet joints). It then spreads to my head and sometimes my eyeballs hurt as well.
Sometimes the pain is only on one side. Sometimes it's on both sides and it's a throbbing sensation.
The other day all my pain was on the right side of my back/neck/head/eye and the very next day it was on the left side!
I wake up with headaches often.
It affects my mood and the way I treat people and the way in which I converse with others.
My family is not really financially well off.
My friends and their parents are telling me I have a brain tumour.
My dad thinks that's rubbish.
My mom is hard to convince.
To ease my pain I resort to pain killers, pain creams and electrical and microwave heating pads.
Does anyone know what on earth is wrong with me and what can be done to fix it? I suffer so much nearly every single day of my life and I can't go on like this. Sometimes I think about ending my life so that I can end the pain.
Thanks in advance
Other notes that you might need to know:
I don't do sports.
I spend a lot of time in front of the computer. |

The only way that anyone is going to know for sure is by getting scans. This would require a doctors referral.
Some doctors may require alot of convincing to get this. So it may be a matter of ruling other things first.
There are still many things that it could be. One thing is for sure if the physio etc aren't working you need further tests.
All the best in getting the right diagnosis! |

| Getting a second opinion from another doctor is something you may want to consider. If you've been having headaches for a long time, then that's a serious problem. If your parents don't care enough to help you then there's something terribly wrong with them, try to seek support from friends and their family to have them convince your parents. I know a fellow brain cancer survivor with the same Germinoma diagnosis like myself who also had bad back pain problems like you, and its not a good feeling. It wouldn't hurt to demand for an immediate MRI just to be sure, nobody will believe you unless you speak up. Good luck! |

| Wow --- you are way too young to be experiencing this much pain! Has anyone ever mentioned scoliosis to you? It's a curvature of the spine that can be quite painful. Are you doing daily exercises? I would think your problem is something neuromuscular in nature rather than a brain tumor, but that's just my (non-medical) opinion. You say your family is not financially well off --- are you covered by any health insurance? If not, perhaps you could investigate some form of state aid. There's got to be someone who can correctly diagnose and treat your condition. It's worth looking for another doctor if you're not getting anywhere with your present one. I wish you all the best!! |
