My wife was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer one week ago. One year ago, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer.

Gemzar seems like a pretty good 1st line of defense against pancreatic cancer. But what about a 2nd line? We were told that the usual 2nd line was Xeloda and Oxaliplatin. But my wife still has side effects from Oxaliplatin, which she took for her colon cancer. So that leaves us with no 2nd line except Xeloda. Does anyone have any suggestions for a 2nd line of defense, after Gemzar?

Also, how unusual is it for a 2nd primary tumor to appear alongside a 1st?

Yesterday I learned that Tarceva is sometimes taken orally, in addition to Gemzar infusions. I also learned that a combination of Gemzar/Taxotere/Xeloda is sometimes helpful. And finally, I was told that a 2nd cancer appearing in addition to a 1st is rare (I thought it might be somewhat common, since the body is weakened by chemo etc., and therefore vulnerable).

Gosh, not a descriptive enough word, I know

Your wife and yourself have been thru torture. Was she becomming a survivor from the colon ca??? And then told crap you now have pan can.
Jim did they catch the pc early, reason I ask was your wife having ct scan for the colon ca? Or other tests were they may see somethig??

That really stinks, I feel for you guys, and just cant wrap my head around
the fact that they couldn't see any of this while she was going for her follow up tests!!

Jim what is your wife's first name if you dont mind, I would like my conregation to say a pray for you guys this Sunday.

Also Jim call pancan toll free at 877-272-6226, they have the latest info on approved combo's also the clinical trials that are open at the time.
