Hi,

Went to the docs with lower left side pain, sent for Ultrasound, whilst doing this on my tummy they found a lump on the right ovary, then had to do vaginal ultrasound. Lump is around 10cm, also found 2cm cystic area on the left where I get the pain and some fluid in my pelvis.

CA 125 level of 6, which I was told was normal. Waiting to have it removed but can't help but think it may be malignant. Gynaecologist said that "we're assuming it's benign and work from there" and that I have to sign the consent form for a total hysterectomy if needed.

Trouble is I have all the signs of ovarian cancer, the bloating, feeling full quick - I've always been a good eater but just lately, can't eat nowhere near the portions I could, really can't be bothered with food anymore because I get so bloated afterwards, no matter what I eat.

I know I'm being irrational but I can't help it. The last 4 months for me have been hell with my 41 year old brother having a stroke, my 48 year old cousin having a heart attack, 2 funerals, uncle and godmum, and now my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer that is inoperable. So forgive me if I seem a bit negative about my diagnosis so far.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks

Mandie

Mandie,

I was not treated as a cancer patient after two huge masses were found on my ovaries via ultrasound. Because cancer was not suspected by my ob/gyn because statistically I was too young to have ovarian cancer, specific areas were not removed and biopsied during surgery. Atleast they did a ca-125 on you, which 6 is well below normal. So while you don't want to fret about it, I do recommend that you have an oncologist present during your surgery. If I had taken this advice from someone, I would have been properly staged at the time of my surgery and other surrounding tissue that needed to be removed may have. now I am battling reoccurances for over 4 years now. Having a low ca-125 count is encouraging, but it is not 100% indicator that there is or isn't cancer.

Wish you the best outcome....
