I don't even know where to start...It's only been a couple of months since diagnosis. She's been through 3 rounds of Chemo that have done nothing but wither her away. Doctor released her to hospice almost 2 weeks ago, did I mention she's only 50? Dad is in denial...don't know where to go from here. She's been on steriods the past couple of weeks due to mini strokes....steriods are about to end, what next? Will somebody please be honest with me and tell me what we are really looking at????

Found some info on Rick Simpson and Hemp oil. Willing to try anything, any feedback would be great!

Thank you all ahead of time.....

Amanda

Hi,
I lost my dad to small cell lung cancer last year. My dad received his official diagnosis on May 6th. He passed away on oct. 15th.

Dad responded very well after ten radiation treatments and three rounds of Carboplatin and VP-16. After a time off treatment, his cancer started growing again aggressively.

I wish I had a more positive experience but unfortunately I don't.

Kristi

Mom had the same chemo meds, but they did nothing....Radiation is not an option and neither is surgery, but she is convinced she will beat it...sounds like from all sides she's fighting a losing battle

Hi Amanda,

I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I am only 22 and just lost my dad to lung cancer.

I honestly know how hard it can be, but you need to stay as positive as you can.

My dad wanted to do everything in his power to survive even though they gave him a less then 5% chance survival and about 3 months to live initially. It was a year later he passed away.

Cancer is often a losing battle, but try to spend as much quality time with your mom as you can.

No one can give her a time line. That is up to her.

Be strong, Amanda!

Drop me a line if you ever need to talk, or just leave another post.

afear925, I am so sorry to hear that your mother as such an advanced cancer! Don't give up hope. Just because one chemo did not work does not mean that her medical team does not have other things to offer. I do not want to give you any false hope; yes, it is very unlikely that she will live many more years. But she is not ready to give up and neither should you. I say this often about a prognosis... it is just a statistical number. I like to know my prognosis but only in order to make some realistic decisions about what I would like to do with whatever time I have left. After that, I just try to live one day at a time. When my father was dying due to AML, every morning I would ask him: "What would you like to do today?" Eventually he got to the point that he could "do" very little. He often just said that he would like to talk with a specific person or to see someone. I did my best to make that happen. I thought of myself as his personal dream factory. I suggest that you are your mother's dream factory too.

You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.

My family is going through the same thing with my mother. She is 85 and was diagnosed with Small Cell Lung Cancer in May. Like your Mother's, it was found in her liver via an abdominal CT scan ordered by a urologist because of a bladder infection. Further exploration found the primary tumor in her lung.

Unfortunately, she is also going downhill very fast. Chemo did reduce the tumor in her lung but not in her liver...she is going through a more rigorous regemin to try to reduce the tumor in her liver...but it is taking its toll. We believe that it is almost time to have hospice come in.

Sadly, Small Cell is very aggressive. A few months ago she agreed to have a lawyer come in so she could review her will and dictate her "end of life" wishes. Being realists, we all know that the end is probably near and we keep praying.

God Bless, I will keep you in my prayers...Don B

I'm sorry for everyone battling lung cancer -- especially SCLC, as there certainly are not nearly enough chemo regimens to attack this beast.

God bless all of you and yours who are in the fight or grieving a loss.

Hugs,
PBJ
