I have not been real consistent with being here as I have been sick all winter, but moving on the best I can...
my question and I asked this before...has anyone had Tarceva as a second line treatment for nsclc, which my 85 yr old Mother has...
it has been 6 months sincer her last Chemo round ( Taxol) and two of her tumors have grown about 2 mm and Tarceva is an option her Onc has suggested. He also said she could go back to Chemo too...the only thing he said about Tarceva is that she could get "acne" and GI upsets...but I have read these can get pretty bad...
any advice, insight would be wonderful! _________________ Trudy

Hi Trudy,
My mom will be taking Tarceva as soon as insurance approves it. She had a scan this morning and we got her results this afternoon. Two rounds of Alimta did not work for her. Her original tumor grew by 5 mm and the lymph nodes near her aortic arch grew by 1 cm.

Trudy and Kristi,
Praying that the Tarceva works for both of your moms! I may even find myself in the same situation with my mom taking it for a second line treatment.
So please know that you both are in my thoughts and prayers. We want nothing but good results!!!!

Thanks Kristi for the update on your Mom...it seems that our Mothers tumors are similar in where they are located.
We go back to her doctor Tuesday, to decide what treatment she will do...it looks like she will go the Tarceva route...
it all makes me unsettled as I have been reading and researching the mediction...and there is always the side effects...and my Mom has been doing so well..
but then that is life with cancer as you well know.
I will continue to keep you and your Mother in my thoughts and prayers _________________ Trudy

Hi Trudy,
It is good to talk to someone else who is going thru a similar situation.
We go in on Tuesday to meet the nurse practitioner about Tarceva. Our cancer center does an education session for each cancer drug used.
Mom's side effects have been managed well so far. Our cancer team is very good about staying on top of things. We have been told the worst things with Tarceva are acne and GI issues.
