|

I am a 18 year old male from Britain and last year I was having terrible problems with abdominal pain from around August to September, I was then finally scanned by ultrasound in the hospital to see what was going on, in my abdominal region.
This ultrasound revealed a 1.2cm mass in my liver which I was very worried could be cancer. The doctors then organized a contrast MRI to get a better look at the mass, the doctors said that they would monitor it but never said that it wasn't cancer.
All of this was back in August 2008, in February of this year I had a follow up ultrasound scan and I was told that the mass had grown 0.2cm, I haven't had any abdominal pain or symptoms since then however I had a letter last week, requesting another ultrasound scan in October.
I am now very worried because an appointment is to be made after the ultrasound scan with the doctor, I am wondering whether or not this will be to tell me that I have cancer.
If I am right then I am thinking why they didn't tell me sooner like back in August 08 or February 09.
Does anyone think that if I had cancer I would have known by now, 1 year on?
Also is this growth rate typical of a malignant tumor or a benign one?
I may just be overreacting and they are simply monitoring a cyst or benign tumor but I am in such a state right now.
I am very grateful to those people who read and respond to this post and wish everyone all the best with their health |

I am surprised a biopsy wasnt ordered first sighting. They must have been positive that at first it was not cancer. They may want one this time round to be sure and just because it grew doesnt necessarily mean it has to be cancer. Im sure they are doing this test as a precautionary so as not to miss it if it does develope into cancer. Then they will have (in that case scenario) a good chance of zapping it from the start.
I cant tell you not to worry(you will do that anyway) but keep a positive attitude and ty not to over stress on things that may never be. you have just as much of a chance of it being noncancerous as well. thoughts and prayers are with you-keep us updated. |

Thanks everyone for your messages of support, after my recent bout of worry I made a doctors appointment with my GP this morning and after visting he showed me the report and it stated that it was a "1.3cmx1.4cm leison that has a benign appearance".
This was very good news for me and the GP was unclear precisely why another scan was being ordered, the GP also said that if it did look suspicious then another scan and possible biopsy would have been ordered in 6 weeks not 6 months just like you said Sheila.
I was told that I shouldn't worry because if the doctors thought this was a cancer then they wouldn't have left things this long without even so much as hinting possible malignency. |

| Hello. I was diagnosised with breast cancer 3 years ago. In fact my 3 years clear was August 25th. Yeah! I had scans done 3 years ago ang I had a 5cm Cyst on my liver. I had 5 doctors to asure me it was only a cyst because the blood in the cyst was clearly visible. I would recommend 2 second opinion although it probaly is not cancer they should know if it is a solid mass or blood filled. Hope this helps. |
