Hi members, i just found news on meditation..
Illness is largely a solitary journey into a land of new sensations and feelings, new events, dangers and decisions. You can inform yourself and get all the advice you want from friends and professionals, but once you are fully there, the landscape often looks nothing like the map. And it is happening to no one else but you.
Meditation will help your total body function well so it can better combat the cancer. However, it is equally valuable in dealing with the psychological issues. Despair, pain and confusion can defeat you just as much as a malignant growth. Confidence, clarity of mind and intelligent management of your situation can heal you just as well as chemotherapy.
Hope all can get benefit on that =) |

I have not explored the medical literature and what it says about the use of meditation in cancer. However I do know it is very helpful to people who are chronically ill in helping them go into remission. We made it one of the bases for self care in one of my research studies.
If you are religious you may like to do meditation within your religious tradition, but there are non-religious forms out their including one where you can put head phones on and different sounds coming in stereo are synchronised by the brain taking you into a deeper form of meditation than most of us can master without help. I can't put in a recommended website here as it is a commercial site, though I get nothing for suggesting it.
For people who don't like the idea of doing religious meditation, then go to the beach and watch the waves, or spend time up a mountain or in the desert and just look without thinking for some time. Each time you find yourself thinking just come back to some aspect of the view.
Try half an hour of meditation twice a day to start with.
We did find, in my research, however, that a lot of people needed to improve low self esteem and deal with unfinished business in their lives in order to feel comfortable doing meditation, so if you find yourself feeling really uncomfortable after doing some meditation, then go spend time exploring those feelings till you can come to some sort of resolution.
One theory about how meditation helps healing is that deep meditation encourages your brain into theta brain waves - a state usually experienced in deep healing sleep. So by meditating you are encouraging the healing state to occur for longer than just when you are sleeping.
And it can be done for free in your own time, at your own pace.

Bill -- if you are using links in your posts, and they are primarily links only, they'll get deleted because it is against forum policies for people to post ANY links with under 10 substantive posts. Posting anything just to get to 10 won't work either. _________________ Husband diagnosed with NSCLC Stage IV.
