Hi there,
I´m just wondering if anyone here has heard of curing cancer through shamanic healing, or whether there are any people who have been sucessfully or unsuccesfully treated shamanically.

It´s a pretty large field that is relatively unknown in the west. If you have had experience, please speak up!

I think that Native American Shaman's are quite well known in the west. Most of this type of work -- such as meditation, Reiki, visualization techniques, etc. are all good for a healthy and relaxed mind to help the cancer fight. Curing cancer through these methods? Nope.

I wouldn't put my faith on sharmanic healing per se unless you come from that culture and there is a good "fit" for the person who is ill. I do know of people who should have never survived from a medical perspective but who did do so, so unexpected recoveries with a good quality of life do happen - just not very often. However the fact that some people do recover means that there must be a physical pathway for that to happen.

I have done a lot of research looking at the psycho-social-spiritual aspects of health and can tell you that survivors have a lot in common. They come to be in touch with an experiential inner wisdom that comes through the depth of their being (some would call this the experience of God, others deny that because they equate God with religion, but their experience is real, not like their experience of religion). Survivors also develop a strong positive personal psychology, are connected to some "family", to society and to nature. Mostly survivors focussed on what they could do to improve their quality of life (their definition of quality) for the time they have left.

Ian Gawler of Australia (Google him) is a survivor from bone cancer with multiple and extensive metastases decades ago runs a healing centre which uses a lot of meditation, encouraging people to come to a sense of inner peace. Many of the people who go there have much better outcomes than might normally be expected.

Generally I recommend that people focus on their own culture, and on making each day, week, month and year the best they can so that when they look back on their lives, in those last days they can smile and say "I did the best I could with the time and resources I had and I'm pleased."

Go well,
Harriet
