hi to all.

I am being currently studying a module which needs me to do research on cancer and the developments on its research.

Has there been any advancement in improving the lives of people who has been diagnosed with cancer? I have met with people who are stricken with cancer and they all told me they regretted taking chemo because it was so painful.

I am 19 years old this year and it makes me kind of fearful in life. Even my own parents told me that they wouldnt want to go through chemo if they had cancer.

Is there no other way?

I wouldn't say chemo is painful. It's not pleasant, but it is what it is and can be a life saver and life extender for people. Anti-nausea medications have improved dramatically over recent decades.

hi NicholasJoel

I had chemo for my cancer for 18 weeks. It was not painful at all. At the end of it no cancer could be detected in my body and now over 1 year after I am still in remission. If I did not have chemo I would most definitely be dead. Chemo is no fun it can make you sick but it is not painful at all and these days it really is not too bad. You have to be tough to fight cancer, as the old saying goes "when the going gets tough, the tough get going" so those of us who chose to fight grin and bear it.

The choice is simple, put up with the treatment and fight or give up and die.

There are other treatments for cancer depending on the type and stage. I know that for breast cancer, there is a new treatment underway the focuses on a protein found only on cancer cells and the treatment is intended to help the immune system locate and fend off only the cancer cells. The treatment requires no chemotherapy or surgery. Right now it's most effective for breast cancer, but could eventually lead to a treatment for other forms of cancer. I learned about it through a site called {link deleted by admin. http://cancerforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=12696 as amended http://cancerforums.net/viewtopic.php?t=7121 } which speaks of an opportunity to invest in the stock of Mentor Capital, which has a 20% stake in Quantum Immunologics, the company conducting the clinical treatments.
