My friend was just diagnosed with stage I breast cancer. She's very lucky to have caught it so early, but she's running into some problems with her insurance company. Does insurance have to cover the complete cost of reconstruction surgery/surgeries? She would prefer to have reconstruction done, but finances are extremely limited at the moment and she cannot afford what the insurance company says it will not cover.

Glad your friend had hers caught early. Most decent policies do cover reconstruction for mastectomies.

She may have to fuss with them a bit, but tell her to stick with it. That's part of the insurance game that I hate, but have never had a thing denied to date.

Thank you so much for your quick response, pbj11. I guess we'll just have to be more aggressive and keep at it. It's good to know that they should cover it, though.

Like I said, if the insurance is good. Please post in the breast cancer forum though, as more people would be able to address it with better accuracy.
