I am devestated today because my wife just found out that her 21 year old brother, who lives in Colombia, was diagnosed with pre cancer cells in the stomach. For the last 6 months he was having heartburn and indigestion so he decided to go to a doctor for a check up. They did an endoscopy down his throat and they saw what they said were pre cancerous inflamation. They said his stomach was narrowed down to the size of a quarter from the inflamation and the biopsy found it was full of Helicobacter pylori bacteria.

I know that the doc said because they caught it early and because he is young, his chances are very good for a cure if they operate.

My question is , what other tests should they ask for before they operate, and what are the chances at that age to be cured?

Also, if it is only pre cancerous and not full blown cancer, should it be opertated on now, or should he wait and watch to see if it gets worst?

Does anyone know a young person with stomach cancer that was cured?

chas036, I am so sorry about your brother's health concerns. If he only has pre-cancer cells, then they did catch it early. I would thing he has a very good chance of halting the process and having many good years ahead of him.

As for other test, I do not know if a stomach cancer has tumor markers. And since it is not a tumor yet, the odds are very slime. A scan might show some growth and they will probably to one periodically.

I think he should fully talk about his options with his own medical team. But since his stomach is so inflamed, something needs to be done.

Keep us informed.
