A very important person in my life was diagnosed yesterday with Esophageal cancer. He has lost 30 lbs in 3 months-cannot eat or rarely can keep stuff down-is severely consitpated and has acid reflux. He is 50. Non smoker-very moderate drinker.....He had no idea and is reeling as we all are?

The prognoisis I read are dismal at best. Is there hope? What should he be doing and in turn, us doing for him?

Please if you have any advice-please respond.

It is Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada but doesn't much feel like it.

I'm so sorry to hear that someone you care for has been diagnosed with cancer. My father was diagnosed with stomach cancer a few years ago and with colon cancer (in situ) before that at age 40. Fortunately he had stomach surgery to remove the cancer and did not need any other treatment.
I've had a couple of scares...had to have a partial colectomy a few years ago and recently had to have an excisional breast biopsy. A good friend of mine recently reminded me of this...
"Be strong and believe that God has the best in store for you, Lean not on your own understanding but trust in Him always."
That phrase sure did help me sleep at night and gave me peace. I hope it will help you and your loved one as you learn more about their diagnosis and treatment. I wish I had information for you but unfortunately all I can do is to remind you to make a list of questions that your loved one can go over with their doctor. It can be good to keep a notebook of info. Fortunately you can find lots of information on the internet now from legitimate sites that will help you know what to ask the doctor.
You and your loved one are in my prayers.
Keep us posted.
