Hello,

Im new to this section. I have been posting mainly in the lymphoma section of this wonderful website.

In a nut shell, I have been visiting doctors now for several months, due to lesions found in my brain MRI. Not one of my doctors have a clue. They have ruled out many things including MS, Epilepsy and migraines. I have since had several tests, including CT scans, Lypmph node biopsy, Lumbar Puncture and so forth. The lypmph node biobsy showed an increased number of lymphocytes, as well as my spinal fluid. This put us on the track to Lymphoma. I have a tonsillectomy (extremely swollen tonsils for months with no symptoms) as well as an open biopsy of the lypmph and a colonoscopy scheduled. Sorry, had to give some background.

What brings me here...both of my parents died at the age of 37 and diagnosed with cancer at 32 and 33( I am 31 now). My dad had a Medulloblastoma tumor and my mother had gastric adenocarcinoma that mestastized to a krukenberg tumor.

What worries me is that my mom had every test done. including sonograms, lab work, colonoscopy....and everything was normal. they chased her disease for 8 months before the growth was visible and palpable, then it was too late. I have 3 children at home. I am afraid that the doctors are missing a piece of the puzzle.

I have lower abdominal pain all the time, I have pain during sex especially. I went to my OBGYN and he did a sonogram, he said that my ovary was primarily cystic but that i should not worry about it.

I cant find a real answer on the web. Does anyone know, is gastric cancer genetic? I dont know where to go anymore, I feel like we are runing out of leads...and time.

I only know of two cancers that have a proven heredity component: Colon Cancers and Breast Cancers. I do know that there are some other cancers where there have been proven a gene mutation that is associated with them but I am not sure those mutations are passed from one generation to the next. I am also not sure if colon cancers are close enough the stomach cancers to be included.

Gastric cancers can be hereditary. You need to be seeing a gastroenterologist if you aren't already and be sure they have a complete account of your family history. Colonoscopy and upper endoscopy can both help doctors find various gastric cancers and are easily performed while you are sedated...I go to sleep and don't feel a thing. I've had many of these done over the years...and they are both simple procedures.
Something as simple as acid reflux can erode the esophagus or be symptoms of gastric cancers or cause Barrett's esophagus...which can lead to esophogeal cancer.

Always tell your doctors of ANY changes in your health regardless of how minor they seem. It's always best to be on the side of caution and catch things early...than to wait until things are so far along that you have to suffer through chemo & radiation or surgery.
Talking to your doctors and having routine check ups are easy and well worth it.
