My mother was just diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and I really need a support group to talk to and ask questions to. Please let me know if you'd be willing to talk to me.
This is my first time dealing with any kind of cancer in the family. I am completely unsure of what to think, what to do, what to say ... basically everything. At this point, I just want to cry all the time and avoid anything and everything that reminds me of cancer including her which is horrible.
I need your help.
Thank you. |

Hi,
really sorry that you found yourself in this forum, even if it is a great forum, because after a few days people are more calm and can think or move on with their treatement or suporting their love ones.
about the cancer you are talking about this is a link to begin with:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasopharyngeal_carcinoma
we are here for you anytime you need to talk. i need to tell people who have their love one having cancer, please don't be over protectiv don't deal with the person like she is very sick and gonna die. if the person is week physicly give her a hand, don't cry to much in front of person, you make them feel bad. when i got my surgery, people who loves me alot, where to sorry for me, some of them was crying because of my scars, stuff like that. i did'nt have a problem, they did, so i was trying to make them anderstand that it was nothing that i am fine etc..
that is why when i was diagnostic, even if my cancer have good pronostin 92 to 98% , i decide to not tell them until either i recover or is gonna be really urgent to tell them. i don'T need drama, i don't need to support other, i need to suport my self, if they was strong, i could tell them but there is no dad in the world who gonna be that strong about his kido. by the way my father ask me many times what it is the result of your biopsy, i told him half the truth is begnin ( this is tru a bout my baseball size tumor they remove from my chest) but there 2 cm in the thyroid who is cancerous. but he don't seem to believe me but the poor man try too.
take and stay strong life is not for the week. god bless you. _________________ 28 y f

I was diagnosed with NPC in January 2008 ater finding a lump in my neck and of course my world fell in. I have just turned 60. I was given 33 radiotherapy sessions with some periods of chemo consisting of cysplatin and fluororourocil (bad spelling probably). I lost over 50 pounds in weight since the radiotherapy made my mouth and throat sore and eating was difficult. I was confident however and after about 10 months I was declared free of it. I am back at work (I am a teacher) and although I do have a dry mouth I drink lots of water when I eat and am even starting to eat some spicy food again. I have a bit of tinnitus too. I am constantly terrified of it coming back and every suspicious symptom is reported.
If you want any specific advice I will try and support.
Just telling you that there is hope.
