Hello,

I was diagnosed with PC several weeks ago.

Here are the details:

Prostate volume - 43
Cancerous tissue lenght - 2.5 mm
Percentage of cancer at Base (left side) - 5.8
Percentage of cancer at Base (right side) - 0%

CT and bone scan didn't find anything.

I'm trying to minimize side effects when performing any procedure (radiation, surgery, HIFU and others). Or watch and wait?

At this time, I consider a robotic prostatectomy with Dr. David Lee in Philadelphia. Per some sources, he's one of the five top urologists in the world.

My regular doctor (urologist) advised me to do something before the end of the year.

I'm completely new to all this and would appreciate any advice from more
experienced and knowledgeable people.

Thanks in advance.

My husband and swear by HIFU. Truly amazing, especially after reading the side effects discussed here by other treatments. International HIFU is our hero.

Watchful waiting would not be good in your case as you have 4 positive cores; 1 or 2 cores is ideal for WW. With a low Gleason and psa any local treatment has the similar cure rates.
Seeds are the most convenient and have the least side affects.

HIFU is not permitted in US. Where did you perform the operation?

We went to The Bahamas with Dr. Scionti from International HIFU. Check out his resume http://www.nyhifucenter.com. He is director for International HIFU in North Carolina and NYU prostate cancer ablative surgery. An American nurse and engineer go with him to the Bahamas. Dr. Scionti also goes to Cancun and Puerta Vallerta.
It was the most expensive vacation we have ever had and worth every penny. We are very happy with the results.

Thank you, John for your input. Patologist (second opinion) has analyzed the protein level of my biopsy samples and concluded that my cancerous cells are not aggressive. My urologist was telling me afterwards that even if I'd decide to do the treatment I select in February next year, he would be ok with that decision. Taht confused me even more.

Still unsure what to do and when.

Go on the YANA site and look at experiences by treatment options. As you will see all treatments have some pretty severe side affects including HIFU. Those saying HIFU has no side affects are misinformed.
Get as much information as you can and make an informed decision; there is probably very little risk in waiting 4 or 5 months for treatment as your cancer is very slow growing.

I swear I am not lying. It is 2 weeks from HIFU and my husband is back to work, no shrinkage, no incontinence, and no impotence, although the Dr. said to wait one more week for sex. The catheter was annoying and he felt kind of crappy the first week because he was on 4 different meds (flomax, antibiotic, etc.) That's as bad as it got.
