I have a question. Well several, really. My step father was just diagnosed with stage IVB pancreatic cancer. It has spread to his liver, and is all through his lungs. My mother wont give me an idea of what kind of time line or what can be done to help him. He has been in the hospital this time since Sunday. They have put a PIC line in him to give him a nerve block from the pain. Does anyone know how long, or what all can be done? I'm scared, and am trying to keep my mom together through all of this. In July his CT showed nothing. Last week, his CT showed large masses in the tail of his pancreas and liver. This morning the PET scan showed cancer through out his lungs.

Please someone give me an answer. I want/need to know what I need to do to help my mom and my step dad.

I am absolutely no expert here, but my dad was recently diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer and unrelated lung cancer. His cancer is also in the tail and has spread to his stomach, intestines and I am not sure where else. He was told by his oncologist that basically he had 50% change to live six months and less than 30% to live a year. He is currently living with a permanent feeding tube and will be starting chemo soon. He lost 50lbs in 3 months, so they are trying to beef him up a bit before starting. My understanding is that the chemo will help extend his life a bit. I am sorry to hear about your step dad. This is a terrible cancer. I wish I knew what to tell you you, I am afraid the outlook is probably not good, especially since it has spread to his liver. I too am really scared and wish I knew what was going to happen next. I wish you and your family the best.
