HI I'm 32 yrs old blessed to have three wonderful children and my husband.
As sad as it is to say I haven't had a pap since right after my son was born and he is eight in two weeks. Was told last week I tested positive for hpv and an abnormal pap and a (blood test showed cancer cells present???) minus hypothyroidism for about 8 years, and anemia I am overall pretty healthy. Needless to say i'm very nervous but trying not to burden my family with it yet not till I know more, so I need any advice or knowledge about what I might be facing??? Knowledgeable questions I need to ask the doctor and when and if the time comes knowing how to explain this to my family. I need info from anyone kind enough to give it.
As a side thought I went to the doc for a pap because i'm having pain during intercourse and after like period cramps and slight bleeding after...
Thank you

Hi Carrieanne,
First off, so sorry to hear that you are going through all of this. We all know how horrible it is not to fully know what is going on when it comes to something as serious as cancer.
Now, did your doctor do any other testing besides a pap and a blood test? Any biopsies? Do you have any upcoming tests or procedures? Testing positive for HPV isn't a big deal as 1 in 4 people have HPV. Did they do a blood test that same day?
When you do go see your doctor next I would suggest getting all the information you can. I suggest you bring a notebook and write everything down.
And as far as telling your family, this will have to be a personal call. I personally had my dad their with me when I got my diagnosis and told all my family members right away, but that method may not work for you. I believe you need to judge how they will react and how supportive they will be. But i do know, going through the waiting and testing process is a whole heck of a lot easier when you have someone to support you in your family. _________________ Stage 1B1 Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Cervix.

| They did the pap and the blood work the same day(all came back abnormal/ positive the pap, the hpv and the bloodwork) and Tuesday I go back to my doctor and she scheduled another doc to be there and scheduled a colposcopy and then a bi(if needed). It does run in my family and again ashamed to say I haven't checked regularly. What do I need to ask??? |

| On a side note my family is wonderful but dealing with an aunt with breast cancer and grandfather with kidney, just don't want to throw this on top of all that until I know there is for sure something to worry about...I have told a friend that I am talking to. |

Glad to hear you have a friend to talk to.
I know its impossible to do so, but lets try to stay calm until we can get the results of the colposcopy back. Its basically a biopsy of your cervix so they can test to see if there is a presence of cancer cells on your cervix.
Things you need to ask:
-any concerns or questions about the colp (if you never had one)'
-what the cancer cells in your blood mean.
-when you get the results of your colp back
-what are the possible outcomes
-what are other possible reasons for your pain during intercourse and the bleeding after (lower on the totem pole but still important question)
Its hard for doctors to give you the low down on everything when they are still going through the testing phase, but hopefully these topics will help spur you in the right direction to getting all the information you need.
Good luck at your appointment! _________________ Stage 1B1 Adenosquamous Carcinoma of the Cervix.
