My mother had colon/rectal cancer surgery and radiation 1 year ago. Since then, she has increased difficulty with her legs such as difficulty walking and getting her feet to move when taking steps. Has anyone else had this type of difficulty?

mom had a similar thing too after chemo and radiation-she used a cane for a bit because she didnt have much feeling in her feet and in made her feel unstable-as the chemo worked out of her system,,it slowly got better, but she to this day still has an odd numbness(neuropathy) in her feet and toes.
Definately discuss it with her doctor-dont assume thats the case -just to be sure

Yes, she had radiation/chemo. Someone also suggested that it could be due to having some lymph nodes removed, decreasing the blood flow to the legs. She's also had a colostomey reversal and 2 hernia operations, in the same area, which were unsuccesful. Her family doctor has no idea, and she doesn't see the onocologist for another 6 weeks.

It is very possible that some of the problems could be because of the lymph nodes being removed. I had 13 lympth nodes removed in my colon area and the radiologist warned me that radiation could cause my legs/feet to swell. He also said that it could be permanent. Luckily, this has not happened but it's only been a couple of months since radiation.

Hi Does your Mom have tingling in her feet and legs? if so thats Nuropathy, Is her legs swollen if they are could be blood clots, Be proactive and do not wait 6 weeks to see oncologist, call the Dr and tell them the situation, Regarding your Moms health You cannott just hang you around waiting.

Best Wishes,,
