well saw mom today-she was depressed they gave her a drip of nutrients , a potassium pill and some kind of grainy drink.
she keeps having bag leaks -but she looks good.
shes having extreme mood swings -one time she says -this is rediculous just put me in a home and give me a poison pill.....then shes worried about coming to my home and leaking on my rugs and furniture(like I even care) thats material b.s.
I just want her home! then she straightens her thinking out and tries to be strong again then we are talking in general and about foods she is craving like yams for one, and homemade spaghetti sauce.-well I said lets get you home so I can start cooking!
Id make whatever would make her smile.
I think after 3 weeks in the hospital shes getting kindof bored and cabin feverish. they are talking about where she wants the nurse to go after she gets home. So we still have some positive going on. she just needs to vent...who doesnt in these circumstances.
when we left she was ok-not faking it-I can tell-shes my mom! |

HI SHIELA.
Been couped up in hosptial is no fun, I was fortunate i could stay with Barb 24 hrs a day and kept her company all day long, and I was glad I was there as at times she needed nurse and itwas frustrating to wait and wait until some body came, just trying to rely on others will be so hard for your Mom, but keep encourging her and she will get there,, Keep going we are praying and thinking of you both...
God Bless...........................Rob |

thanks star!
what were doing as the caretakers is rough and stressfull but its zip comapared to what she has to go through physically and mentally.
she called me and said they are mentioning that if they dont get her stabalized enough when she has to be released, she may have to go to a home or facility for extended care...If its something I can handle SHES COMMING HOME! if not one minute at a time. whatever is best for her. |

she was nauseated today from the lomitril but it is thickening her up a bit.
I brought her in some homemade chicken soup-at least it somewhat settled her stomach-she was eating well untill the new med. I see a spark of progress..and left her in a nit better state then she was in earlier..."WHEW!" she said she slept a bit better last night because her output had slowed down a bit. picked her up a few lounge pants on the way home too! goodnite a bless you all |

saw mom this evening made her some really soft mild meatballs in my sauce brought them in-she couldnt eat them yet she had just tried to force down some of her dinner-the nurses are keeping it for her in their fridge till shes ready for them. I also brought some homemade chicken soup broth she drank some of that.
she got sick from the hospital ginferale- either too sweet off brand orthey try to give he diet pop. that bothers her normally(me too)
so I brought in those 8oz cans of canada dry and it worked for her nausea too! thats a good one for settling stomachs. always was.
shes getting potassum and vitamin k shots something for diahreah stonger than immodium, but the upsets her stomach so she gets a shot for nausea too. she is still on saline and back to a bag of nutrients and dextrose-she now has to have her blood tested to control the sugar the are putting in her. The doctor said she is having trouble stabalizing all she needs that her body isnt absorbing enough . may take longer and still could to a point work on its own somewhat-but with some other supports too,
They keep trying different methods-Oh how I pray something works good enough to let her come home. they said she will probably be there at least another week and isnt at this point sure of the extended care. all depends on how things go this next week. At least when I left she was in a fairly good mood considering-told us to stay home tomorrow and get our furniture packed and rotolille the garden. and get caught up on rest. she needs me to stay well should she come home. I am the only one who doesnt have an outside job.(good thing).
sooo I feel a bit better after snuggling with her and talking to her tonight.
Shes trying to get back in fighting mode...gotta love her |

thanks star-she is having food issues I was just talking to herthis morning and she just aye french toast she forced it down...we werent talking more than 5 min and she had to get off-she thought it was comming up.-so far she has been able to eat eggs, applesauce with protein powder added, soft meatballs--I think she either1-needs to eat verry slowly little bites without talking(extremely hard for her-shes a fast eater and yapper at the same time.
2they shouldnt feed her so much bread products like they are giving her thick hamburgers on a rubber bun, extremely dry chicken breast over rubber noodles and nothing to put on it(we brought her a container of honey-helped her get her chicken and bannanas down.
she asked me if I would bring her a yam one time then angel hair pasta flavored with olive oil slight garlic and a bit of parm cheese with salt and pepper-if that works I will had cooded zuccini slices nex time spinach is good in that but not a good idea right now for her shes going too loose now Ill be seeing her tonight let see what she chooses. |

mom said they are deciding to maybe let her go home soon -but she will need to hook up to a bag of nutrients every night.
she can be free of the iv during the day. they must be getting her balanced out more with a plan...I can hear the enthusiasm of comming home in her voice. If all goes well Id say by the end of the week latest.
Her plans are to go to her home after release-check things out-pack a bag and come to my home. a nurse will be sent for awhile to check on her like the last 4 times.
Im beginning to see a ray of sunshine and the warmth of the whole idea feels soooo good! Ill be seeing her this evening and bringing her soup request |

Just being out of the hospital and home can be a huge mental boost. I hated being in the hospital staring at the ceiling. _________________ 10/01/07 - Removal of Stage III Colon Cancer Tumor & Temporary Colostomy

| I am sure your Mom will feel much better at home. Perhaps it will give her a boost to eat more as I am sure she will be feeling so much better at home rather than the hospital environment. |

wytyspy-she will feel better at home its not hat she doesnt want to or feel like eating -its the statin shots for the digestive enzymes that upset her stomach and she throws up her food (not everything she eats) seems to be mostly breakfast. we have been bringing things that are staying down (she isnt on any special diet as of yet)-last night she ate half of a half of a medium yam. stayed down-buttered noodles stayed down. carrots and peas are ok applesauce with protein powder banannas- I think she needs to eat soft food like steamed meats cooked well veggies etc, and often with samall portions-I think will work better. I havent been able to get to the hospital when the thrapy person is there-untill we learn how to hook up her night time nutient drip they cant release her thats one thing holding up her comming home-the other is probably throwing up. at least its not everything she eats.
she asked my brother to bring her in a hot fudge sundae and frie(go figure) I personally dont see that going over too well-but sometimes you need to eat what your body tells you to. Im weird like that when Im sick-I crave chipped ham and chicken wings or spaghetti-altho nothing eles will stay down-hmmmm.....sounds like its in the genes |

Bruce-honestly baby food is a great nutritional source. one only doesnt want to consume it because of the high calorie content-just add salt or a bit of sugar because there is none.
Ive babysat a huge portion of my life and heres a hint-the bannanas and applesauce are delicious! If you like greens the garden veg mix is good the yams and carrots are good . the others eh? the meat gross!
But Im considering mixing the bland meat in with regular fround meat or turkey and making some soft meatballs Im sure the only difference will be the texture. It wouldnt hurt you to give it a try.
honestly it will surely give you energy . No-one has to know what your doing if it that thats bothering you.
or like the creamy bananna-if you want you can add chunks of rel bannana in it. a scoop of that would be excellent with a peice of pund cake if you like sweets. Me I even like the oatmel you could mix some in with regular and get the extra nutrients without hardly noticing. |

YAY! things are looking up a bit mom kept down 25% of her lunch and 25% of dinner because they decided to cut back on the statin. she even walked the 4th floor octagon shape the whole way around! shes getting stronger . If she can keep her food down they may be able to cut back on the nutrient drip. shes getting in and out of bed herself. she really needs to get home-Im predicting next week long as she keeps progressing -she has almost been there a month-shes going nuts . (heh heh so are we)
your all in my thoughts tonight
goodnight allZZZzzzz...... |
