My endo's office called today and informed me they want me to do an ultrasound on my thyroid. So far I have met with her once: at that time she saw the lump on my neck. She speculated it may be a "hot" thyroid nodule (I have a multi-nodular goiter) and she suggested the thyroid may need be removed through radioactive iodine; despite my biopsy on it was clear. HOWEVER, last week the SAME office called and said there was signs of hyperthyroidism, but NOTHING will need to be done now. The office said the doc just wishes to keep a watch on it. While on the phone, I asked about the possibility of the doc ordering a bone scan (the institute she is in also specializes in osteoporosis) but the lady informed me later the doc doesn't do referrals concerning cancer screening of the bones. Shocked

This past May I had a fine needle biopsy done, which revealed no cancer. Of all the thyroid tests, it is the fine needle biopsy in which I place my greatest confidence. I am not trying to run from the possibility of this being cancer--the chances are less than 1% according to the physician who performed it. (He told my primary that in his report, but he verbally told me 5% to 10%).Rolling Eyes

I do not take to medicine well, and I rather be in a position to be subjected to different medicines if a particular one did not work out. With the lump nuked, I will not have a choice but to be stuck with meds for the rest of my life. My uptake scan demonstrated I absorbed 39% of the iodine, whatever that means--I guess it is indicative of hyperthyroidism although my lab does not reveal it. Any thoughts or suggestions? I will do what I have to do, but I like all sound medical treatment options to be presented to me by a doctor-- not just one option without discussion as her office has postulated. *I read this is a typical method of treating hyperthyroidism, but my main concern is how I would react to the meds.
