Simon,
I also had a cough for a long time before I was diagnosed. Then my cough went away and now it is also back again. That made me worry a bit as well, but as you know - winter is coming and there are lots of things flying around. Personally, I wouldn't get the swine flu jab for myself at the moment but it might have done you good.
I don't have the lymphoma in my bones, but I do have pain in my bones. It is horrible. I also get pain in my joints. If I cross my legs, my knee takes ages to ease up afterwards. Ask the doctors about pain killers that you can take long term. I think tramadol and similar pain killers can only be taken for a while because they will affect your kidneys more.
The cough COULD also be something to do with your chemo affecting your lungs a bit, but I wrote 'COULD' in capitals because this is a small percentage, and you shouldn't worry but should mention it to your consultant.
I'm hoping you feel better soon. I'm also guessing you have a macmillan nurse? Depending on where you are in the country, he/she will have a chance to sit down with you and go through things in an easy way? I know that my nurse has helped me, but she doesn't have a lot of time. 5 minutes, and she's gone!

It was the winter flu jab I had not the swine flu jab.
Also I dont have a MacMillan nurse, the senior nurse at the hospital who was the Oncology specialist nurse, said I dont need a MacMillan nurse. He said it wasn't neccesary so never reffered me
Will see if this cough reduces. Thanks for the advice and help, as always greatly appreciated

Good morning Simon
I am new to this board as well. Just joined yesterday and do not fully understand the mechanics of posting. I sent you a private messge but do not know how to check to see if it went through to you or not. I'd appreciate your letting me know if you received it. If not, I shall do some editing and post the information I hope will be really helpful for your situation. I had some links for you to research regarding your chemo caused neuropathy and if I understand correctly, that type of link is not allowed until I have made a number of postings. Hopefully the suggestion that you do a Google search on "Glutamine for chemo caused neuropathy" will be allowed to stay here.

Hi shemay
Welcome to the place no one wants to be. May I ask why you are here? Do you have or are you caring for someone with lymphoma or another type of cancer?
Glutamine does show promise in reducing the severity of peripheral neuropathy, but it does not prevent it. All the studies I have seen have been from very small sample sizes and not many have been from double blind studies, which is a shame. In Simon's case it would not be of much use as he has completed his chemo and to gain any possible benefits, if any, it needs to be taken as an adjunct to chemo. Much larger double blind studies are required before this will be mainstream.
Re the posting of PMs, if you look under the title you will see 5 headings in hypertext. the 4th one is "you have no new messages" If you click on that you will go to your inbox. If Simon has read your PM it will be in the sentbox and if he has not read it it will be in outbox.

| PS. As I only finished my Chemo in may this year, if it has returned as I expect it has, is this a bad BAD sign? |

Hi Simon
Even though you are experiencing similar pain this does not mean that the cancer is back. The return of cancer is the biggest fear all of us survivors face and it can consume all your waking thoughts and easily induce panic. You must resist the fear and try and relax about this. I know it is hard but the alternative is not really worth considering.
Try not to think about this until you have seen the doctor again. I'm sure further investigations will be ordered and until that has been done try and distract yourself by doing things that you really enjoy, spoil yourself a little.
I'm hoping the doctors visit goes well and your fears will soon be put aside. We are always here to help if you need us at any time. _________________ Age 52

Hi Simon. I finished my chemo in April, making it to complete remission. Twice since then I was sure that I had relapsed, and twice since then I've been shown to be wrong. There were some scary moments there to be sure, but for the most part I realized that, regardless of whether or not I really had relapsed, I still had many waking hours in the day let to live, and had no time to waste them on pointless worrying that accomplishes nothing constructive.
I can't tell you that you don't have cancer, but I can tell you that you can choose not to have your emotions held hostage by fear. A book that helped me to understand this was Dale Carnegie's "How to Stop Worrying and Start Living". This book was written over 60 years ago and contains many dated references, yet it is still being published today, a testament to the eternal wisdom within. I highly recommened checking it out at your local library and see if it is worth purchasing. _________________ Age 37 (36 at diagnosis)
