Hello again - I'm still in a sort of limbo between failure of salvage radiation and possible enrolment in a Sloan-Kettering trial in which I'd receive either androgen deprivation (Leuprolide) alone or with chemotherapy (Docetaxel). My total PSA in the most recent test on Oct 2 was 0.57 -- only slightly above the 0.5 level where it stood before the start of SRT just over a year ago, but at the present rate of increase it could well hit 1.0 within six months. Otherwise I have no symptoms and CT, MRI and bone scans were negative.
This gives me time to think about options. I'm quite impressed by
some of the things I've heard or read from Dr. Charles "Snuffy" Myers and am considering making an appointment with him. You might ask why I'd want to look beyond the doctors at Sloan-Kettering, and I stress that I'm not unhappy with them or simply flailing about in desperation looking for some sort of miracle. But at the same time, I sense that someone else is needed (at least temporarily), perhaps to mediate between me and the big institution that is Sloan-Kettering. I don't have a general practitioner of long standing who is deeply familiar with prostate cancer, and I live mostly overseas (although I also have Medicare Part A and Part B). As Hawk correctly said in a reply to one of my earlier posts, the phase I'm in now is one on which medical opinions differ as to the best type of treatment. I'd welcome comments on the experiences anyone may have had with Dr. Myers' clinic.
Thanks again.

You can't go wrong with Myers. I don't have any personal experience with him, but have talked to a couple of other patients that have seen him and said he diagnosed PC varients that major institutions like Anderson missed. For difficult PC cases, Myers, Strum, and Scholz are the guys to see.

While you probably cannot go wrong from a consultation with Dr. Meyers, I am pretty sure he will not have ANY influence or impact on your doctors at MSKCC. I think their general opinion of Dr. Meyers is that many of his passionately held opinions are simply not backed up by sound evidence.

Dr. Meyers is very likely to give you a different perspective than you would get from going to another major center like Johns Hopkins or MD Anderson in TX.
