My friend had her first chemotherapy session today, and since she's gotten home, she's had severe nausea and vomiting. From everything I've read and heard, it isn't normal to be this sick after the first time. She's on cytoxan and taxotere. If anyone has any idea on why she's getting so sick or any tips to help with the nausea, we would really appreciate it. It's tough to see her feel so bad.
Thanks,
Vee |

Hi Vee,
I'm sorry about your friend's reaction. They probably gave her an anti-nausea drug in her "goodie" bag prior to the actual infusion and it's worn off. Does she have and is she taking the prescription the doctor gave her?
If she is, and it's not working --- call the doctor immediately and get a better drug to help with the nausea. She needs to take them like clockwork starting the day of the infusion. Staying ahead of the nausea is far easier than trying to stop it once it starts.
Best of luck and let us know what happens.
God bless,

Sorry to hear that your friend is having such a hard time. There is no need, in these times, for your friend to be having so much nausea. They have some great meds to treat it. Doc just has to find out what works for her. Contact the doc and have him/her order a different nausea med or a combo med, stat. Hope she feels better soon. _________________ Where is the cure???

Thank you for the advice, pbj11 and Cindy. We contacted her doctor and got a different prescription, but it doesn't seem to be working either. She's taking them as the directions say, but she's beeing vomiting a lot, so maybe they aren't staying down long enough to have an effect...? Or should she try another medication? I'm worried she's getting dehydrated.
Thanks,
Vee |

My friend went in for her second round of chemotherapy today, and already the nausea and vomiting are bad again. I've been making sure she's been following the directions when taking the anti-nausea drugs, and I even double-checked with the nurse today when I took her to chemo, but they haven't been helping. This is the fourth medication she's tried, and none of them have seemed to help settle her stomach. Is there anything else out there she can try or should we start looking into things like acupuncture? I don't know what to do at this point, she's been feeling so miserable. If anyone has any input or advice, we would really appreciate it.
Bless everyone here.

Vee (another Vee!),
I thought I had already logged on and thanked you for your advice and the links! I'm so sorry for taking forever to say thanks. The ginger helped my friend out tremendously. Her stomach can still get pretty iffy at times, but it's much, much better than before since we've gotten her ginger candies to suck on.
Again, I'm sorry in the delay. Thank you so much for your help!
