Hello everyone. Like most everyone says, I never thought I'd be posting on a site like this, but here I am. I'm 29 years old, single, no children - but definitely want children. I apologize, in advance, for the length of this post, I just really hope there's someone out there that can give me some hope.

I have always had normal paps up until the one I had last month. I was almost a year over-due, and now I'm kicking myself hard for that one. I got a call from my Dr's office (secretary) who told me that I needed to come back for additional testing, that I had an abnormal pap and they needed to see if things were better/worse than what the pap showed. I asked her what the pap showed and she said that it couldn't rule out High Grade Lesions. I had no idea what that was so I hung up & googled it. I should not be allowed to use the Internet right now because I got really freaked out. So I called back and asked for a nurse to call me back with more details.

I got a call back from the Practitioner (who I normally see) who told me that the Pap showed cancer. She said that at this point there's a very slim chance that it's not cancer, that it's severe displaysia and that they can do surgery to preserve my uterus and cervix. She said "we're leaning toward cancer, which would mean a hysterectomy." At this point I totally crumbled. Thankfully they moved my biopsy appointment to 10/26 so I didn't have to wait 2 weeks. I don't think I could have handled that.

I went in for the Biopsy on Monday and the Dr tells me that the area of concern is in the cervical canal - and that it's showing glandular issues. He said it's more rare and more difficult to detect. He said that if it is cancer that I should consider it a blessing that they found it. He also said that he's had situations like this where the sent off biopsies which came back normal. He said if that's the case then he will do surgery to scrape cells off everywhere, just to be safe. He said that my exam was "terribly normal". He wasn't able to see any abnormal cells during the colp, using the vinegar, but of course, the problem area is inside the canal .

Anyways - I'm supposed to get the results back this week. I'm scared to death that I'll have to have a hysterectomy. Anyone had issues w the cervical canal? Anyone have any insight? Any response is greatly appreciated!

I'm so thankful that this site is here Smile

Hi JBailey,

Welcome to the forum, and so sorry that you are here. Don't apologize for the length of a post Smile You write as much as you need to!

I personally never had to worry about my canal, but from the sounds of it, you were really luck your doctor is catching this in time!

With that in mind, I have rarely heard of a doctor jumping from cervical dsyplasia (even if its severe) to having a hysterectomy, but I guess since the cells are in the canal, it is a bit more reasonable. If you still want to have kids and it turns out your doctor recommends a hysterectomy, you can ask him/her about preforming a trachelectomy. That is when doctors only remove the cervix and not the uterus making it still possible to have children, but by c-section.

But I am getting ahead of myself. First, lets try to stay off the computer and wait for those colp results! (I am just as bad as everyone, if not worse, when I google for information)

Lots of support via internet!, rockstar
