My aunt was treated for colon cancer stage II about 2 years ago. She underwent chemo and radio therapy and her tests (including CEA) were OK since then.

On her last regular CT scan, doctors noticed slightly enlarged lymph node (1.5 cm) near her liver. Her cancer was on the left side of the body.

I understand that enlarged lymph can be caused by many factors but may be somebody has information about something like this?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Hi Philopator,

Lymph nodes swelling generally caused by localized or systemic infection. Most probably is caused by malignancy. Did your aunt feel any pain on that swelling part? If it is painless, then it may result from malignancy or tumor.

Are you saying that the infection can be caused by malignancy?

My aunt did not feel any pain, the lymph node is internal is located near the liver, we were told that a person cannot feel them. CT scan showed all internal organs clean and without any sign of tumor. Can the malignancy be inside the lymph node itself?
The increase in size of the node was charaterized as minimal and insignificant - can there be any other explanation?

Thanks for your reply

Hi philapator,

What i mean is there are 3 common reasons that cause the lymph node swelling.
1.Localized infection
2.Systemic infection
3.Malignancy

May i know is the size of lymph node gradually increase without any pain? How long it has been observed? If the lymph node become larger and larger, most probably we will feel the pain.

My message here is just an information for you to look through. I think it is better for your aunt to consult from the specialist.

Hope this can help.

Regards,
Kok Siong
