I have had bad pap smears for the last 5 years off and on. Four months ago I had a colposcopy (found nothing) and my follow-up pap last week. The results from my pap were as follows:

High grade squamous intraepithelial lesion encompassing: moderate and severe dysplasia, CIN 2 and CIN 3/CIS.

I am scheduled for a LEEP on November 13.

Does this mean I have cancer? And they will be doing the LEEP in the doctor's office, just numbing the cervical area.

I'm pretty scared!

Hi Nwill,

Dysplasia means you dont have cancer really, but it can develop if left unattended. What it really means is that there are cellular changes happening on the surface of your cervix. Preforming LEEP does not mean you have cancer. They are basically biopsying a larger section of your cervix more so than in a colp. For some women, this is all the treatment they need and other need to go onto more drastic measures.

And you should ask your doctor where they will preforming the LEEP. Some doctors do it in their own office while others do it in hospitals (but that is only for doctors who work out of hospitals). It is a simple procedure not to freak out about.

I know this all seems so scary and that big horrible work cancer is floating about. but try not to fret until you get the results of your LEEP back. Hopefully it will remove all the abnormal cells and you will be back to normal!
