My doctor game me the results of my biopsy last week. He told me that I'm at the "moderate" stage of endometrial cancer. I have an appointment with the Oncologist this wednesday. This is a shock to me and I am still trying to digest all of this. What is moderate stage? My fear is that I've had this thing longer than I know of. I'm 55 years old and I want to live to 100! It's all kind of surreal to me now. I fear that I did not ask enough questions. I suppose that I was somewhat in shock. But, I know that it will not go away.

Hi Leveled, welcome to the forum.

Endometrial cancer is staged from stage 1 to stage 4
FIGO Surgical

Stage I The tumor is confined to the uterine fundus (the body of the uterus).
Stage IA The tumor is limited to the endometrium (the lining of the uterus).
Stage IB The tumor invades less than one-half of the myometrial thickness (the myometrium is the muscular tissue that is found just beneath the endometrium).
Stage IC The tumor invades more than one-half of the myometrial thickness.
Stage II The tumor extends to the cervix (the lower part of the uterus).
Stage IIA Cervical extension is limited to the endocervical glands (glands in the inner lining of the uterus, where the cervix meets the uterus).
Stage IIB Tumor invades the cervical stroma (the supporting connective tissue of the cervix).
Stage III There is regional tumor spread.
Stage IIIA The tumor invades the uterine serosa (the layer of tissue that surrounds the outside of the uterus), or adnexa (tissues on either side of the uterus), or cells in the peritoneum (the member surrounding the abdominal cavity) show signs of cancer.
Stage IIIB Vaginal metastases are present.
Stage IIIC The tumor has spread to lymph nodes near the uterus.
Stage IV There is bulky pelvic disease or distant spread.
Stage IVA Tumor has spread to the bladder or rectum.
Stage IVB Distant metastases are present.

I've no idea what moderate means hopefully your oncologist will be able to tell you more.

The final staging usually takes place after surgery, I was diagnosed at least 1b which thankfully stayed the same after surgery.

Endometrial cancer is very curable when caught in the eary stages, what type do you have??

I know it's easy to say not to worry, I was a nervous wreck for weeks and it took a while for the news to sink in. Have a browse though the posts in the endometrial forum and feel free to post any questions you have.

Take care and keep in touch.

Hi Leveled,

I know how difficult of a time this must be. It is really a shock to learn you have cancer and then all kinds of issues come against you so fast, such as treatment, family, work, etc...I think my diagnosis was a little beyond moderate, but not the last stage--just a category away. As Pixie stated, there are specific stages by which your diagnosis will be classified. If your doctors do not tell you, ask them what is your stage and grade. This arms you to educate yourself with what standard of treatment typically addresses the stage you are in. It is very surreal, but take on an attitude of beating this disease! Weigh your treatment options, and purpose in your heart to fight. You will be in my thoughts and prayers. You have a "family" here, so come back and keep us informed on how things are going and to post any questions. Believe you are going to get through this!

Rhonda
