My father has prostate cancer which has moved into the lymph nodes. He is taking thalimide. He has been on this about three weeks to a month and his psa went from over 100 to over 200 during this time. According to my mom, the doctor says it will rise then eventually go down and level off. Due to the fact that I have young children and a part time job, it is difficult for me to see his doctor with him to answer any questions I have and understand what is really going on. My mother is not always the best at asking questions and neither is my father.

Also, he is going once a month for what I think is chemo, through a drip in is hand, though my mom says that the doctor does not call this chemo.

Any info will be appreciated.

Mitzi,

I think the best approach would be to talk to his doctor face-to-face or even call him. It is not good to be out of the loop, and information should be available to you. I can not tell you what your father is getting, so contacting the doctor would be the best.

Thank you for your reply. I guess what I am looking for is that I have been unable to locate anything about this drug(thalidimide) used with cancer patients. Is anyone familiar with it's use regarding cancer patients? And I also am wondering if cancer in the lymph nodes(secondary type) is treatable.
I see alot about the beginning stage of prostate cancer, but not much about when it has spread and what tiny bit I have found is not very promising.

Hi

I guess you have the wrong spelling. The drug is called thalidomide. Regarding more advanced cancer, you should look for more information about more advanced prostate cancer.
