So glad to have found this board. I am a married 43 year old with 3 children. Have had years of trouble with periods but since my mom went through early menopause, we just assumed that I had also. About 4 years ago I tried the birth control and then over a year with Depo Provera – to help relieve heavy and irregular periods. I stopped the depo approx 2 years ago and up till last week had no periods. Last week I was in the ER twice and finally got an ultrasound done – showed I had a fibroid and some ‘spots’ – a biopsy was rushed and last Friday evening I had this horrible procedure done – has to be the most uncomfortable procedure ever. Now I sit and wait for the results – terrified and in complete disbelief that this could be cancer. Not sure if others had the same experience – where the ultrasound showed something that warranted a rush biopsy? Thanks for reading and will update soon. Kathy

Hi Kathy:

Sad I am sorry to hear about your bad procedure experience, and what you are going through in your wait. It is terrible waiting on a biopsy--try to keep busy with other things, but in reality, you cannot help to worry some.

Our stories parallel in some ways, I was 43 when I rushed into emergency from severe bleeding, however the hospital refused to investigate, and simply prescribed birth control pills and sent me on my way. I was also taking Provera. Had a biopsy been done by the hospital when I went through emergency, or by my gynecologist--the cancer would had been caught MUCH earlier! But I never had a rushed biopsy, or a biopsy at all of the uterus, so I really cannot answer your question. For you to go through emergency, it sounds like the biopsy was warranted, and it sounds like you are in good hands. I had ultrasounds showing multiple fibroids, cysts, but no biopsy. Heavy bleeding and unusual vaginal bleeding is brushed off too often. Doctors should not just assume its a fluke, in our "head", or "just" fibroids... Mad

You will be in my thoughts and prayers. The wait stinks--I can tell you I was told a few weeks ago I might have cancerous nodules in my throat, but my last biopsy are clear--yet there are too many nodules to biopsy all. I worry sometimes, more for how my twin would handle it then myself. The best thing to do is to hope for the best, pray, and keep busy. My faith keeps me going, but its hard to wait and wonder. I will be praying for a good medical report. Wink

Hi Kathy, welcome to the board, I hope you can find some answers here, if not at least some support.

I hope that the biopsy turns out to be nothing serious, I didn't have a biopsy, after my ultrasound I was taken direct to the operating room for a D and C.

Try not to worry, waiting is the worst part, we've all been through it, if it helps post all your worries and questions here on the board and we will try and answer them.

Take care and try to think positive, if the worse comes to the worse Endometrial cancer when caught at an early stage is very curable.

Thank you sooo much for the responses..... I work with surgeons and nurses so today was spent discussing my issues with them - one of the assistant surgeons is also a family doctor and I guess right now my biggest issue is frustration with my family doctor. He never sent me for any tests and only prescribed birth control and depo provera. This should have been looked into a long time ago. But I will deal with that later, advised to call to see if results are in tomorrow and trying to get my co-worker (doctor) a copy of my ultrasound to review. Thanks again, this all feels like a very bad dream..... Kathy

Kathy, my heart goes out to you, as we understand how frustrating this wait is for you. Like Pixie said, endometrial uterine cancer caught early is a very curable disease. Yet vaginal bleeding comes from many causes, and typically, such abnormalities are not caused by cancer. BUT--because cancer is a deadly disease, atypical bleeding symptoms require vigorous and thorough checking. According to the CDC in 2005, 37,465 women were diagnosed with uterine cancer. That's in the United States alone.

Kathy, let us continue to hope for the best! Most of the time it is not cancer, but if it is caught early; most uterine cancer is beatable. I hope you get those results soon, if anything, to ease the torture of the wait. Let us know what the report reveals. You are in my prayers and I am believing for a good outcome!

Rhonda

Last friday one of the drs that I work with reviewed my ultrasound. It states 12mm thickness, bulky uterus, fibroid and some cysts and is consistent with cystic hyperplasia though further testing is required. After finishing the 10 day progesterone treatment I had 2 days of no bleeding and then Monday it started again full force. Went to see the gyno dr yesterday who did not have the biopsy results and prescribed a month of birth control pills. Left his office and burst into tears...... I need this bleeding to stop and the cramping is unbelievable...... Have xmas and a family vacation planned for New years - week in jamaica and cant imagine going with the bleeding and pain as it is today. Thanks again for listening and if anyone has any feedback on the ultrasound results, I would greatly appreciate it.....

kathy,

I sure hope your holiday turns out ok. Concerning uterine cancer, a biopsy is more reliable in detection than an ultrasound. I am sure you probably tried Ibuprofen at some point, nothing helped my pain, but then again--cancer was at play. However, the fibroids, possibly endometriosis, other things can be causing your pain. I would call your doc TODAY, and see if you can be prescribed something for the pain. Sad I wish I had the answers for you. I pray you have a good vacation and certainly be praying for this pain go away.

Hi there, Well the biopsy came back negative for cancer, but he has scheduled a D and C and further testings. Obviously he is still concerned, and that worries me. The D and C is scheduled for the end of Feb. so I am back to waiting.......
