Hello,
My father was told he has stage 4 lung cancer with metastasis. The metastsis tumor is hanging off the bone near his hip. His doctor said he had never seen a tumor like this. He had bone/brain/etc scans, and they are clear (no cancer). The tumor near his hip was biopsied and it is lung cancer. I cannot find any information on the web regarding lung cancer metastasis to outside or on the bone? Has anyone heard of this or can provide me with more info. Thanks! |

| Sorry to hear about your dad. Yes, my mom has stage IV lung cancer that spread to her brain and hip area. They treated both metastatic tumors with cyberknife and gammaknife-essentially an intense focused version of radiation-which offered her relief by killing/reducing the size of the tumors. That was a year ago, and she is starting to feel pain again in her hip area. |

dss,
My dad had a smililar situation. When cancer is Stage IV it has spread through the body. From all you will read you will see that life expectancy for this stage is generally from 6 months to 1 year depending on the mobility of the person and care is palliative, for pain. The more immoble the shorter the time since the body is weaker. If you read alot, it almost appears that when people try treatments in this stage they kind of regret it later because the person seems to be much more uncomfortable. I'm sorry. |

| Hi... my mother has NSCLC 4 and she already has a bone metastasis. She also has liver metastasis. She's on chemotherapy right now, and this seems to help her a lot. |

| Hi, the chemo is helping your mom? How old is she? Is she mobile? If you don't mind answering, how much longer have they said the chemo will afford her? |

Hi Tompkin....
My mother is 64 years old, with NSCLC 4, liver metastasis and bone metastasis (at her forehead).
Before the chemo she used to have pain at her forehead and some swelling and bad feeling at her abdomen.
Till now, she has had 2 cycles of chemo (4 therapies in 6 weeks). The pain has stopped, her forehead doesn't pain at all and the swelling has stopped too. One or two days after the chemo she feels very tired, once she has had some itching and once she has had swollen feet for a day only.
So, this seems to help her. I guess she is lucky because she hasn't experienced any bad side effects from chemo - till now - and her cancer symptoms have stopped. After a new cycle of chemo (2 more therapies in the next 2 weeks) doctors will run new tests to see how the tumors are doing. I'll keep you informed. |

PS for Tompkin -
- my mother is mobile too. She keeps doing everything she was doing before and doctors have told us to encourage her to do so. I guess that what helps her most is that her lung cancer is metastatic but not too spread inside the lungs. She has one 2cm tumor in one lung. |

Hi Tompkin!
Yes, I'm in Greece.
I don't think that treatments are different here. For example, my mom is treated by 2 doctors. One of them have studied and has worked for years in the USA, before returning to Greece. The other one has studied in Greece and then worked for a few years for a famous international Hospital - University in Sweden which actually "discovered" and produced for first time in history the "gamma-knife" machines. Most of the doctors I know in Greece (ongologists) cooperate with doctors and hospitals from abroad and visit all international conferences on cancer and so on. They are very updated on new treatments, etc.
What they have explained to us is that every case is different. Depending on each case's facts and the patient they suggest the treatment and explain all the alternatives and what we should expect from each one. Then the patient decides what to do.
I have made a big research in the internet and have taken second and third opinions from doctors and it seems that almost all cases that are similar to my mother's are treated the same way.
My mom was diagnosed almost a month and a half ago.
The doctors say that they are really happy because her organism has accepted the chemo so well. This doesn't happen often. |
