I writing on behalf of my Mum. She is an ex-smoker and is 67 and was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease last year but has always suffered with a bad chest all my life at least (26 years)

She has not been officially dianosed with lung cancer but we are all still fearing the worse. So far she has had antibiotics, gastroscopy, strong painkillers, steroids, anti-sickness pills and a bronchoscopy. the results of the bronch cane back negative for cancer cells yet she is still unwell and the Dr has now booked her in for a bone scan tomorrow and CT scan Friday. We are still no wiser whats causing this than we were in the beginning (two months ago). I think they are scanning to found out if it has spread to other parts.
Has anybody else had a bronch which came back negative for cancer cells but still had cancer. And does this situation sound like yours.
I am worried sick and cannot seem to get answers from anyway and all this waiting just seems to be delaying the inevitable.

She has also lost two stone in weight and is hardly eating.

Can anyone help???

Thanks

my mum has had her bone scan results back and they were ok but we are still waiting for the ct scan results.
She is still in alot of pain and the second dose of steroids the doctor has put her on has had little effect.

have any of you only had your cancer diagnosed after a ct scan. we still feel we are waiting for the inevitable from these results as she's been really poorly now for over two months and after all - what else could it possibly be.

please reply - and thanks Confused

Hi wammer...
My mother's cancer was diagnosed through a CT scan and a biopsy.
But that doesn't mean that your mother's case is the same. I think that you should wait for the results of all tests and the doctors opinion.
Hope you're doing better...

just found out today that it is lung cancer. but mum is to be booked in for another biopsy soon to determine type and staging etc.
her GP has told her surgery is not and option due to the location of the tumour. she said she isnt in any pain due to new painkillers which i suppose is a blessing but i cant help thinking what if it had been diagnosed earlier. she has been having complaints for almost three months now.
does anybody know how quick the tumour can grow - her dr said the ct scan showed it has not spread anywhere else.

Also can anybody tell me her prognosis is likely to be anything but bad if she cannot have surgery. surely chemo or radio alone is not enough.

she is also 67 and has still not put on any weight (afetr losing 30lb)

i just dont know what to do next!!
