Hi,
I am 11 months post bilateral mastectomy. The path report following surgery revealed a 2.7 cm lesion of DCIS, poorly differentiated, intermediate grade with necrosis as well as LCIS. No chemo or radiation was deemed needed as they felt they got everything. Five days prior to the mastectomy, I underwent an excisional biopsy for a lump that developed on my sternum in between my breast. That biopsy reveal ADH & LCIS.

About three weeks ago, I noticed a small firm nodular lump suddenly appear on my sternum in the middle of my breasts in my previously flat biopsy scar. Feeling a little silly because I was "cured", I went ahead and saw my PCP and asked him to take a look. He indicated that this was a little late in the game for a formation of a keloid scar, but he thought that is what it might be. He did ask me to make an appointment with my surgical onc. to make certain that it was nothing more. I have made the appointment, but would really like some feedback from any of you that have had an experience like this.

Also, do they normally get any breast tissue/cells that reside in between your breast during mastectomy?

Thanks for ANY feedback,
Linda

Linda

Even though a lot of care is taken during the surgery, some cells may actually go to close areas. You are right about having someone evaluate this. It is uncommon, but it can happen.

regards,
Leo

Hi,
I personally haven't heard of anyone these days that doesn't get either chemo and/or radiation, even stage I's. I'm glad you are getting it checked out. Please let us know what you find out.
Nancy
