My mother is 83 years old and had lung cancer surgery 5 years ago. Now, the cancer is back. It is inoperable and chemo and radiation is not an option. The only possible option is a drug called tarceva, but supposedly has numerous side effects. Has anyone heard of this drug and had any experience with it?

schwa,

Side effects vary from patient to patient so it is hard to make hard and fast statements.

That being said, Tarceva has a much better side effect profile that almost any chemotherapy drug.

Tarceva costs almost $3000.00 for a months supply, so some form of insurance is a must.

The main side effects are rash and diarrea. Many believe that the rash is a good thing because it shows that the drug is working.

I would also look into melatonin, PSK, and reishi mushroom extract. Melatonin is widely used for lung cancer in Europe while PSK and reishi are mainstream treatments in China and Japan. All three of these have a better success rate than the conventional treatments.

You can check these out at PubMed as all have had positive trials. All of these have a very low side effect profile. Melatonin should not be used with any steroid or Procardia (Nefedepine).

My Dad was on Tarceva and it didn't work for him. He did get a rash from it, but that was the only side effect. He is now drinking 6 oz of NONONONO tea per day along with chemo and feels a lot better. He is not going for another CAT scan until February, so I don't know if the tea is helping shrink the tumors, but everyone I know who drank it were either cancer free, or had a lot of shrinking in their tumors.
