Hi, I am new to this forum & would be very grateful for some help as I'm currently worried sick about my 5 year old. I took him to the doctors for a rash last Wednesday morning which the doctor said could be an allergic reaction (it did look like hives) However the doctor was more concerned with a swollen gland on the right side of my sons neck. He told me that I would need to take my son for a blood test once the rash had disappeared and when I questioned him further he mentioned that it could be Hodgkins and that sometimes children show no other symptoms. Well as you can image I am now worried sick, the blood test results are not back yet (I've phoned daily) Its been 3 days now - is this normal? If it was serious, would they have phoned me straight away? Can they tell from your blood if its cancer? I rang the doctors and was told that it could be a week for the results. Please if someone can help me out I would appreciate it so much.
Ps my son seems fine in himself - just a little pale.

I went into ER with a swollen neck. Blood test came out normal. It was only after a CT-Scan that they diagnosed me with lymphoma NHD. But, there are so many variables to consider. age (I'm 71), source (mine was probably from Agent Orange in Vietnam some 35 years ago, duration (I'd been sick for some time), attitude, diet, lifestyle, etc.

I know what you're talking about though. I once thought about writing of my experiences and was going to name it "Waiting".

Good luck with your child and remember that there are second opinions.

Just to say thanks for your reply Burt, I still have no news as yet - I am sorry what you have been through - your reply is much appreciated, I think I will seek a second opinion if the test does come back 'normal'. Playing the 'waiting game' is just horrible, hopefully I will have answers soon. God Bless you Burt & hope you are well.
