There are over 200 different types of cancer. You can develop cancer in any body organ. It is like Virus . There are over 60 different organs in the body where you can get a cancer. Each organ is made up of several different tissue types. For example, there is usually a surface covering of skin or epithelial tissue. Underneath that there will be some connective tissue, often containing gland cells. Underneath that there is often a layer of muscle tissue and so on. Each type of tissue is made up of specific types of cells. Cancer can develop in just about any type of cell in the body. So there is almost always more than one type of cancer that can develop in any one organ. Often though, one type of cancer will be much more common in a particular organ. But what is Symptoms of the cancer?
Thanks:

Very good question that is often asked, and the answer is different for everyone. True, some types of cancer have characteristic symptoms such as pancreatic cancer- abdominal pain that radiates to the back. But does everyone with pancreatic cancer have abdominal pain - no. Have there been people with cancer without ANY symptoms - definitely YES. Some people can have an early stage cancer and feel bad and others have metastatic cancer and feel fine. Best advice is if you feel a significant change in your body that persists - then seek medical evaluation. What is a good amount of time - consider several weeks but letting a lump grow for over a year is definitely too long. Yes this does happen.

My oncologist friends say that symptoms are important, but only as a starting point. They say: “The proof is in the tissue.” Until they get a tissue sample, they will not make a conclusive diagnosis. They will say things like: “it looks like,” “you might have,” and other such tentative statements… even when they are almost 100% sure it is cancer. That, at least, has been my experience. _________________ Jim

I think that it is very difficult for a dr. to tell you that you have cancer, after all they are human too. My dr. kept informing me about what other possibilities the mass could be such as a fibrosis. It was not until a positive biopsy report that he brought himself to talk extensively about the cancer. In my case there were no symptoms i felt great. Then I noticed an indentation on my breast. If ever you are not feeling yourself you should talk to your dr.
God bless and be well....

| My personal experience was that I felt fine until one day I chased a bad guy (I'm a Cop) and then that evening I felt sickly and the aches were almost unbearable in my knees, back, shoulders and I took a few days off to recover. I started to chalk it up to being 44 years old, and being a large frame man, 6' 8" 300lbs, but have always been active, non-smoker but for the occassional cigar, social drinker and I've always eaten properly, no junk! By the time I got in, got looked at, got tested, I'm approaching Stage 3 of Chondrosarcoma now and am getting worse as the days tick by. Don't wait for anyone. Push the issue with your doctor. You have that right. |

| Thanks In. You probably aren't surprized, then, how many people do not exercise their rights and think that doctors have the last say in everything that goes on with someone else's well being. I know, just from speaking to other people over the years, when they go to the doctor and say one thing or the other, then I ask, well, did you tell them this or that, and the response is NO because when I try the doctor disagrees or just flat out says no, or it isn't this or that, I'm just amazed when I hear stories like that. I'm lucky that I have a family doctor that listens to me and I've had her for 22 years now but she's the best. She got right on my issues as soon as I reported them to her. As you say, In, you know your body the best and I knew that something was wrong with me that day. I felt fine going to start my tour but as the shift went on, I started to feel different somehow, then after the 2 mile foot chase, everything was different. As the days went on the sickly feeling, aches and pains just got worse. I went to see her 4 days later and then, well, the rest is history. Again, PLEASE, PLEASE, exercise your rights and push the issue. |
