I recently had a chest x-ray as a standard procedure before an operation, and they found a single 8mm nodule in my lung. After two x-rays and a CT scan, they can still not determine whether it is malignant or benign. I am having a PET scan tomorrow, and get the results next week. I am really terrified. I am 38, never smoked a cigarette in my life, and am completely healthy - no symptoms of anything at all. The surgery (that has now been put off) was to remove a benign (dermoid) cyst on my ovary. The doctors are confident that the cyst is benign, and not connected with the lung nodule. They also mentioned the possibility of the nodule being a sign of metastisized cancer, but as far I know - I have no cancer. And in recent months I have had many, many tests (after a single internal bleed that was bever found) - gastroendoscopy, colonoscopy, CT scan abdomen and chest, echo of chest, and many blood tests. I also just had a mammogram today to rule out breast cancer. Except for the ovary, all these tests were clear. As far as I know at this moment I am perfectly healthy, but this PET scan is freaking me out.
Can someone give me some insight here on what the possible outcomes will be, and what I should be focussing on?

You may also want to send this message to lchelp.com and www.acor.org (and register there for non-small cell lung cancer). They are both very active message boards and you will get a lot of useful information.

I had a .5mm nodule in my lung april 2003 but my doctor said it was nothing to worry about. SEPT 05 I had a 2.5 cmm tumor in my lung same place as the nodule and three lymph nodes affected. Make sure they check it out properly
