If you have been diagnosed with calcium deposits in your breast and want a mammotome biopsy, what type of doctor should I see to get a referral for this? Should I go to my PCP or to a surgeon? or?

Hi

I had a stereotactic biopsy by a radiologist , they did find atypical cells
at that point I was referred to a surgeon, who removed tissue for
further testing. I was lucky they found lcis at an early stage and am
waiting to see what action will now be needed .
I hope this helps.

Hi, I had stereotactic biopsy in 2000 after suspicious microcalcifications showed up under my 1996 lumpectomy incision on mammogram. I was referred to my surgeon who made the arrangements with the hospital. I am not sure who did the proceedure. But, it went fine. Very little discomfort and no sign of cancer! Hope this helps. Good luck and prayers for benign results. Lauri

Usually sterotactic biopsies are done by radiologists, but surgeons can do it as well. Your PCP should be able to know who does it at your institution.

I had a stereotactic biopsy done by the radiologist. Because I belong to an HMO, I had to get my PCP to do a referral. Best of luck to you!!
