I was wondering how low can your blood counts be and still be treated. My wife was just seen at NCI in Maryland, and they told her the results from her CBC tests were to low to be treated. blood count was 9.2 platelets were at 45,000 and I dont remember what the white count was.
I was just wonder if that was keep there numbers up, or if they all have to be high.

Sorry ballcap8, but I do not remember what type of cancer your wive has. I know that my father had chemotherapy until his platelets were much lower than that but he was getting platelet transfusions. I took chemotherapy until my red blood cell count was below 1. It is only around 5 now. It might depend on the type of cancer and overall health of the person.

sorry, she has stage 4 matisitic melanoma. and I was asking more about treatments like IL-2, they want to stat her on chemo pills now, but we have been told that chemo does not have very good results.
