Recent bone marrow test showed I have early M/M. I am a 90-year old with several stents, high blood pressure, and anemia. My doctor advises low-dose Melphalan. Considering my age, I am hesitatingto take the drug treatment. Is there advice on what I should do? Thank you Ray

Hi Ray. I am very sorry about your Multiple Myeloma. My father-in-law died with MM. He survived for 6 years after his diagnosis. I do not know the type of chemo he was on. He also had radiation therapy for local control of the tumors. His therapies really did drain him.

You have a very difficult choice. You can always try chemo and see how it affects you.

Ray, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hi Jim
Thanks for your response to my post.

I wil visit the doctor in a couple of weeks, and want to hear about the experience of others who have taken mephalan. My blood numbers are WBC and RBC 3.27; HEMO 10.8; HEMAT 10.8; MCH 33.0; strongly indicate anemia.
At age 90, I am fairly active and my thought was to tolerate the symptons of anemia to the point of a blood transfusion. Others in the forum related the experience of their older relatives with their treatmens without mentioning their age, and I would be interested to have that information.
thamk you Ray

My father-in-law was in his early 60's when he was diagnosed. He was still active and working but had to retire (sell his business) shortly after being diagnosed.
