I have tri-care health insurance courtesy of the military. I am currently married to a retired military soldier but we are separated and will be going through a divorce. I am a 5 year cancer survivor so my question is after the divorce I will need insurance on my own will I still fall up under pre-existing condition when I try to obtained insurance.

Hi Survivorr, I am sorry about your history of cancer. A divorce is always difficult and you do not need the extra worry about insurance coverage. Doesn't Tri-Care offer you coverage as an ex-spouse of someone in the military? If they do, that would be your best bet. Health insurance is very expensive anyhow and many health insurance policies will not cover pre-existing conditions. Your other option is to go work in a company that provides group coverage to its employees. There might be a waiting period for pre-existing conditions, but eventually the coverage will include your cancer. Good luck.

If your cancer is either breast or cervical cancer and you no longer have insurance, you will most likely be eligible for the Free Medical Assistance Program for Breast & Cervical Cancer in your state of residence.
