Hi Wendy. BiCNU, BCNU, Carmustin (all the same thing) is one of the oldest and therefore best known chemotherapies for giomas. By "well known" I mean that oncologists have a lot of knowledge about how it works, side effects, when to use it, and when not to use it. Nevertheless, I wish the could use Temodar.

Aready did use Temador, after she had the surgery July of '08. Tumor grew back. Then Avastin, and now I guess the only option now is to use the BUNU. Her doctor at Sloan Kettering basically stated that it is just being given to her as a "pacifier" because the thought of my mother not being around anymore(her words) is not acceptable to her. At last visit he stated that he wouldn't be surprised if she had about two months left.He gave the BUNU about a 10-15% chance of doing anything. I know that is a tough chemo and if she has such little time left I would rather see her have a good quality of life rather than be sick from the chemo during her last days

Wendy, I hear you. It is not an easy decision. I know that I feel like 1993 was a lost year due to chemotherapy sickness. In 1994 when I turned 40, my coworkers joked about me being "over the hill". I told them that I felt that I should be 39... that someone owed me a year. Now, 17 years after my diagnosis, I see it differently. I see say I invested one terrible year in exchange for 16 rather good years.

My "anniversary date" just passed... November 7 Very Happy
