I've recently been diagnosed (via an ultrasound guided biopsy) with papillary cancer. I am a 37 year old male. I will have surgery next week, followed of course by 131 I treatments.

My doctors were originally not planning on doing a CT scan, however I asked for it and received a CT scan this last week. It showed 7 small nodules in my lungs, of a pattern "consistent with early metastases". I also continue to have abnormal liver blood tests (tho an ultrasound of my liver showed that it looked clear).

I'd really like to learn from other thyroid cancer patients who've also had metastases... experiences, info, treatment, prognosis, etc... to have a metastatic cancer (even if it is "only" papillary cancer) is still quite a serious thing, and i want to learn from others.

I am 32 y/o male with papillary carcinoma. I was diagnosed in Jan 2009, had the surgery and radioactive iodine treatment. The whole body scan indicated no metastasis. So I’m clear for now. There is still a 15-30% chance for recurrence so I’m not out of the woods yet.

I’m sure you’ll have a whole body scan after the initial surgery and radioactive iodine treatment. This scan will show any metastasis in organs or lymph nodes. Will the doctors do surgery or debulk the tumors? Will you have multiple radiation treatments? Not sure. You are a more complicated case however you still have a good prognosis. You will be in my prayers.

I just realized your post was in 2005. I would love to hear how things are going now. Update?

Thanks,

Kenny, thank you for becoming involved in this subject. I am sorry about your cancer. I am happy that you are currently clear. I know what it is like to be clear but with a high probability of a recurrence at some point in the future. I hope that raciere is still following this thread I will reply. But even if he doesn't, I am glad you are here to offer support to others.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
